Hyatt Regency Minneapolis Spy Devices
I love to travel A LOT as do many of you. Additionally, I earn Hyatt top tier Globalist status the hard way since I find the Word of Hyatt loyalty program to be incredibly rewarding. That means I spend a lot of nights each year in Hyatt hotels. 81 this year to be exact.
One thing I try not to give a lot of thought to is people spying on me. Maybe I should, because multiple spy devices have apparently been found at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Minneapolis. According to Yahoo, “…more than one device was found, though the total number is not being disclosed at this time.”
The Hyatt Regency Minneapolis is located Downtown in a very central location. It is a huge convention hotel, housing over 600 rooms and sitting just a block away from the convention center. I have generally heard good things about the property, but haven’t stayed there myself.
A Lot To Still Learn
At this time the police are not sure if guests were actually spied on or not or whether any footage was recorded. A Hyatt spokesperson said the following to PEOPLE:
“The safety and security of guests and colleagues is a top priority at Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. As soon as the hotel learned about this situation, they immediately contacted local authorities and conducted a thorough property-wide search for unauthorized recording devices; no additional devices have been found. As confirmed by local authorities at this time, it does not appear that anyone associated with the hotel is involved in the situation. The hotel continues to fully cooperate with Minneapolis Police Department on their investigation. Further questions may be directed to MPD.”
Bottom Line
It seems the police are still in the early stages of figuring out the source of these devices along with how/when they were placed and just exactly what they did. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of this, but either way it is just a reminder of how much technology is changing every aspect of our lives and our privacy.

I understand that a chaperone with a recent school group installed the cameras to keep an eye out on their students. At least that is what is now being reported. Hotel staff has nothing to do with this.
Heard that too. But sounds like they were left behind. Intentional or not
