Hyatt Status Extension 2022

We cover Hyatt a lot here on Miles to Memories. That is largely because they have one of the most rewarding and customer friendly loyalty programs. For the past 5+ years I have been a top tier Hyatt Diamond/Globalist and my plan was to requalify this year through staying at least 60 nights.

In fact, I am almost halfway towards Globalist status with 26 nights year to date including those I received from the World of Hyatt credit card. Despite that, a lot of my upcoming travel has now been cancelled or changed and it was definitely going to be harder to get to 60 than it was last year. Fortunately I no longer have to worry about that.

My Hyatt Globalist Extension to 2022

Last week Hyatt made news when they extended the status of many of their members in the Asia Pacific region. It was a very customer friendly move, but now it seems they may have rolled that program out further. Earlier today I emailed my Hyatt Concierge to ask if they had plans to extend the status for anyone who resided outside of Asia. Here was her response.

Hi Shawn,
I hope all is well.
We just got approval today to extend your tier status through February 28, 2022. I have taken care of this and you should see an email here shortly from World of Hyatt.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a wonderful evening!

Shortly after seeing the email I checked my account and confirmed that I am now Globalist through 2022. Note: My free nights and upgrades were not extended, so I have a follow up about how that will work.

Who Is Eligible?

At this time it is not clear if they are extending status of all Globalist members or just members who they identify as having traveled to affected regions. I have traveled quite extensively to Hyatt properties in Asia the past few years which could potentially have gotten me on their list. Unfortunately it wasn’t shared with me whether everyone is eligible or how they are targeting members.

Hyatt Status Extension 2022 – Bottom Line

If you have World of Hyatt Globalist status you may want to reach out to your Concierge about whether you are targeted for an extension. There is certainly no guarantee and I have no data to share outside of my own example, however I suspect we’ll be hearing about similar extensions for others soon enough.

  1. Shawn, great news. Did you receive the “milestone” perks or no? Like the cat 1-4 cert at 30 nights, $100 GC at 40 nights, 4 suite upgrades, and the cat 1-7 cert when qualifying for Globalist? Or was it just the status level itself that you were gifted an extra year, and nothing else?

  2. Just wrote to mine last night after seeing this post and have had to cancel 30 nights already and had over 70 last night with about 1/3 in Asia. This affects more than Asia now and they need to widen the net. They’re granting me an extension till 2022 as a one time offer, which is amazing and reasons why I’ll stay with Hyatt for life

  3. Congrats Shawn! That’s awesome. I hope I get this same extension. Last year I stayed 109 nights in Hyatt properties but this year I simply won’t make it because of the Corona virus fears. My company has cancelled most of the travel to Europe and Asia. Even here in the USA many conferences have been cancelled. Heck, even my stay in Austin for South X Southwest had to be cancelled as that event was cancelled even though Austin didn’t have any cases.

My wife doesn’t really want to travel with all of this going on and we were traveling about one trip per month. I hope Hyatt comes through for extension for this loyal Hyatt Globalist.

  4. I’m likely to make Globalist through credit card spending and stays anyway. Can you see any advantage to the additional year in my circumstance besides having the status guaranteed?
