Hyatt Unbound Collection Hawaii Resort & More
Yesterday Hyatt announced the launch of a new brand called The Unbound Collection. This new brand will launch with four properties which will carry their own unique names and character, but will utilize Hyatt’s, “award-winning customer loyalty program, robust operational and marketing resources and trusted, quality brand.”
Here is some more information about the brand from their press release:
The Unbound Collection by Hyatt launches with properties around the world, including The Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas; the Hôtel du Louvre in Paris, France; the Carmelo Resort & Spa in Carmelo, Uruguay; and the Coco Palms Resort in Kauai, Hawaii, which is expected to undergo a revitalization and re-open in spring 2018. Future hotels in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt will be equally story-worthy, whether it be through a fascinating past, an exclusive location, famous architecture and design, or an award-winning dining experience.
A Historic Resort
The Coco Palms Resort in Kauai is an interesting addition to the Hyatt brand. The hotel opened in 1953 and grew to almost 400 rooms before being closed in 1992 following a devastating hurricane. It has not reopened since. The reconstruction of the hotel was approved in 2015 and while we knew it would be under a Hyatt brand, I think allowing it to keep its unique name and history is a great idea.
You might recognize the Coco Palms as the hotel that was featured prominently towards the end of the Elvis movie Blue Hawaii. The hotel is located in the Wailuā area which is north of Lihue where the airport is located. In contrast, the Grand Hyatt Kauai is located on the very South end of the island. These two resorts should compliment each other well.
Conclusion
While this announcement technically includes four properties which are already part of the Hyatt portfolio, it also paves the way for Hyatt to seek out other unique hotels which might not fit under a typical Hyatt brand. I had forgotten about the Kauai project and am excited to see how it progresses. Another Gold Passport redemption option in Hawaii isn’t a bad thing!
