Iceland Ends All Covid Restrictions
Authorities in Iceland have lifted all the restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the Coronavirus on February 25. This includes both domestic restrictions and entry rules for foreign visitors. That means that it will be easier to visit the country and there will no longer be restrictions such as mask mandates, early closing hours for bars and more.
“Thereby, all rules regarding limitations on social gatherings and school operations as well as the quarantine requirement for those infected by COVID-19 are removed. Additionally, no disease prevention measures will be in place at the border, regardless of whether individuals are vaccinated or unvaccinated,” the statement published by the Ministry of Health reads.
Iceland’s Minister of Health said that the decision was taken following the current epidemiological situation.
“We can truly rejoice at this turning-point, but nonetheless, I encourage people to be careful, practice personal infection prevention measures, and not to interact with others if they notice symptoms,” he said.
Since the start of the pandemic, authorities in Iceland have registered a total of 112,094 cases of COVID-19 infection cases and 61 deaths, based on World Health Organization (WHO) figures. Iceland has a 79% full vaccination rate.
Cheap or Free Flight to Iceland
If all that convinced you to visit Iceland, now it’s time to figure out how to get there. We wrote yesterday about Icelandair and it’s $379 round-trip fares with a free stop-over in Iceland.
But there’s also an opportunity for 5 lucky winners to get there for free. Michael W Travels wrote about this first, yesterday.
You can sign up for the Icelandair newsletter for the chance to win one of 5 trips for two to Iceland, including round-trip flights on Icelandair to Reykjavík, 3 nights with breakfast at Icelandair Hotel Reykjavík Marina, a visit to the Sky Lagoon Pure Pass Experience, a Golden Circle tour operated by Reykjavik Excursions, and round-trip airport transfers between Keflavík Airport and the hotel.
The prize is valid for two years and both current and new members are eligible. So this really is as easy as it could be. And if that’s not enough, Icelandair will also give away ten $500 travel vouchers to lucky runners up.
You can see the promotion here. Competition closes on February 28, 2022, and winners are drawn on March 3, 2022.
