New IHG Point Breaks Preview & Analysis – IHG Hotels For 5,000 Points!

IHG Point Breaks

Every two to three months IHG releases a list of hotels that will be available for 5,000 points per night called Point Breaks. Today they released a preview of the next Point Breaks list which will go into effect for stays from July 28, 2014 to September 30, 2014.

There used to always be a couple of higher category hotels on the list from the Intercontinental & Crowne Plaza brands. Unfortunately, lately the list has been comprised of mostly Holiday Inn & Holiday Inn Express hotels, especially in the United States. Lets see if things have improved.

Analysis

While this is only a partial list, I am pretty sure they have added the best hotels to it, so I am not expecting any surprises.  While we still see mostly Holiday Inn Express hotels in the USA, it appears IHG has definitely added more Intercontinental hotels internationally.

Central America is well represented with Intercontinental hotels in Guatemala, Costa Rica & Panama & a Crowne Plaza location in Honduras. Additionally there are several Crowne Plaza locations on the list in China and nice additions in Europe like the Crowne Plaza Bratislava, the Intercontinental Bucharest & two Crowne Plaza locations in Turkey.

Conclusion

While this is not the full list, I am impressed with it having at least a few more higher end options compared to the last two lists. Check back here on Monday when I will highlight any additions that have been made. Finally, make sure to book the rooms you want ASAP since they tend to go fast!
