(Video) Police Brutally Enforce Covid-19 Lockdown In India

Earlier this week India instituted a complete lockdown for its 1.3 billion people in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19. India’s prime minister Modi said that the measures are necessary to protect people, based on what is going on in other countries around the world.

While these measures are extreme already, the way the lockdown is being enforced is even more outrageous. Police are physically punishing citizens who violate the lockdown, beating them with batons. Here is one of the videos depicting the police brutality:

There is already one report that a man that stepped out to buy milk, was beaten by police and then died. His wife reportedly claimed that he was hit with a lathi when the police were clearing a gathering on the street. Police refute the claims and alleged that the man died after suffering from a cardiac arrest.

Other issues are also arising from the lockdown. Many people are stranded without income and without work. Thousands of migrants also found themselves stranded across India as Modi announced the lockdown with just four hours notice. Flights and public transportation has all stopped so they have no way to get back home. Many have been seen walking for miles or crammed up in trucks, Al Jezeera reports.

  1. In a population of 1.3 billion, if anyone is thinking that we could control such a contagion by just ‘Requests’, he/she is living under a rock. People are disregarding the rules set and are stepping out to almost challenge the authorities. I see no problem in such use of force in these cases. They should do it here too.

  2. I agree bring it to the USA. Its not disabling beating just enough to burn and bruise to bring the point home. It also keeps the police from making contact with them. Right now to many police are becoming sick in NY and the police force is becoming smaller and smaller day by day. Stop arrest, keep police protected and just beat people until they go home, im all for it!
