More Airlines Are Adding New Service to Mexico

The Mexican Caribbean is the most visited region in the country. It includes popular destinations such as Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cozumel, and much more. Mexico has been one of the most visited countries during the pandemic for Americans, as travel abroad has been difficult due to restrictions. Airlines are now listening to customers, offering more options for them to visit these beautiful beaches, stunning landscapes and everything else that Mexico offers.

American Airlines for example is offering weekly service to Cozumel. Southwest is scheduled will resume daily service from Houston on March 11, and Frontier Airlines is set to launch new flights from Denver on Feb. 13 after a six year hiatus. Frontier has also added four weekly flights to Cancun from Orlando, and will launch five weekly flights from Miami on March 7, along with Saturday service from Cincinnati on March 13.

Airlines outside the US has also increased service recently. TAP Air Portugal will offer three weekly flights from Lisbon to Cancun, Evelop Airlines will resume service to Cancun with a weekly flight from Madrid and Orbest is scheduled to resume weekly flights to Cancun from Lisbon.

But can you travel to Mexico from the US? While there are some restrictions and things to be aware of, the answer is yes. The US has temporarily limited inbound land border crossings from Canada and Mexico to ‘essential travel.’ But this does not prevent U.S. citizens from returning home and technically, air travel is allowed, along with train and sea travel.

The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico confirm that U.S. citizens can enter Mexico and they do not need to show a negative COVID-19 test result or quarantine on arrival. But, effective January 26, all airline passengers to the United States ages two years and older must provide a negative COVID-19 viral test taken within three calendar days of travel. Alternatively, travelers to the U.S. may provide documentation from a licensed health care provider of having recovered from COVID-19 in the 90 days preceding travel.

  1. Lol @ jack jones.

That’s the sort of idiotic stereotype that lowers the bar for humanity. It’s hard to fight ignorance anymore when it’s everywhere.

    • Really – this is from the US department of State Website:

“For detailed information on all states in Mexico, please see below.

Violent crime – such as homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery – is widespread. Armed criminal groups have been known to target and rob commercial vessels, oil platforms, and offshore supply vessels in the Bay of Campeche.

The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in many areas of Mexico, as travel by U.S. government employees to certain areas is prohibited or significantly restricted.”

I guess you know more than the ignorant US Department of State.

  2. I guess the question to ask is it safe to travel to Mexico period? You hear all these stories about drugs and cartel wars.
