Amazingly, I booked three free nights and liquidated 150k points for a trip to Florida just before this happened. The place I’m staying in Key West has not increased the cash price but more than doubled the points cost! At the time I booked, I was a bit concerned that my point balance was going to be almost zero, now I’m celebrating my great timing!
That is amazing and doubling the price overnight is criminal!
Interesting points about not willing to stay in Holiday Inn. I’m FI and a traveler and Holiday Inn is good for me. Bethany’s net worth must be far exceeding the base 7 digits and the question is why to even bother with points, miles and the game. Isn’t it a waste of time where other pursuits can be better time spent? Although I know an 8 digit guy who orders pizza and greasy food, so I get we all have our quirks. For me personally when on the road, 1 night stays are frequent and that is where the certs hold value (I get 2 each year and therefore they go fast).
I think the point is that the certs and points hold a lot less value today than they did a week ago. Is it worth continuing to collect a currency that will do that overnight without notification? There are much better options in my opinion. Plus IHG points are difficult to earn outside of paid stays when compared to Hyatt or Hilton etc.
Said it all along that IHG sucks…
Haha it did but it sucked a little less before 🙂
