Posts That Caught My Eye

Interview: United Airlines president and CEO Jeff Smisek

Of course he talks about the MIddle East carriers and how it isn’t fair that they are subsidized. He also briefly mentions expanding into secondary China markets with the 787. The most interesting thing though is that United is planning to phase out International First Class. Not a surprise overall, but an interesting tidbit of information in an interesting interview.

7-20-15 Groupon Coupon / Insane Dell TV deals with Discover Double Cashback / The Dell EPromo Merry-Go-Round

Some good deals (from yesterday), but the main reason I am posting this is because anyone who is interested in reselling should be following this blog. Not many people find great deals consistently before I do and he makes me jealous sometimes. Also a super nice guy and pretty funny too!

And the Next American Express Centurion Lounge Will Be… Houston!

One of many sites to cover this news. Amex is really building out these lounges and turning them into a network. I am lucky enough to have one at my home airport which is awesome. (Although I want a spa!) Anyway, the real reason to visit IAH will not be this lounge, but the Disney built people mover! (But you have to leave security for that.)

How to travel to Cuba before it gets mobbed by Americans

A pretty mainstream article with reminders that cruises will start to Cuba next year and that Airbnb is setup in the country. With that said, the title is true. This will happen. I am trying to figure out how to get there early next year, since it has been on my bucket list for awhile and once commercial air travel begins from the U.S., it will become a different place.

Great Deals

  • Groupon is once again offering 20% off local deals. To get the discount, use the code HOT3. Use a portal for even more savings.

  • Many of the gift cards from eBay’s sale are still available if you didn’t get them yesterday. You can find my full breakdown of the deal here.
  • If you are interested in Amazon competitor Jet.com, they are offering a public 6 month free membership, but I can do you better. Enter code: Accel0721A for 12 months free! HT: Slickdeals

Have a great night!

  1. The writing has been on the wall for “Global First” for a long time – Continental only had business class, and many though not all carriers have been moving away from international first class. And United’s current offering, especially lounges and the onboard soft product, make pretty clear their heart isn’t in it.

    • I think they are looking at several different cities in China. There are a lot of cities in China with over 10 million people, so it seems like Chengdu is a good test for them.

      • Guangzhou ought to be high on the list – United previously applied for and received route authority for SFO-CAN but IIRC they never started flying the route because of the economic crisis.
