Museums on Us 2017

Museums on Us 2017

During the first weekend of every month, Bank of America credit and debit cardholders are able to get into select museums around the country for free. The program is called Museums on Us and I think it is probably one of the coolest unknown perks around.

I wrote in detail about the 2017 version of the program back in January including the terms and which dates and museums are available. Since today and tomorrow (June 3 & 4) are the first free museum days of the Summer, I thought I would just poke around the country to find some of the cooler sounding places that perhaps I might want to try to visit.

Note: You need a valid Bank of America or Merrill Lynch debit or credit card to receive free museum admission. While I love the perks of this program, I don’t believe anyone should go out of their way to get a card just for Museums on Us. If you already have an account with Bank of America, then this is just another added benefit.

Before we go further, here is a reminder of which dates Museums on Us is running in 2017. Let’s hope it is renewed for 2018 & beyond!

Coolest Museums

One of the neatest things about Museums on Us is finding places that aren’t traditional museums. Of course there are the standard art and history museums around the country, but here are a few more interesting places that you can get into for free. You can find the full list of available museums here.

Children’s Museums – Las Vegas, Miami, Houston & More!

As the father of a 2+ year old, I am definitely interested in some of the free Children’s Museums around the country. We have a fantastic one in Las Vegas that is part of the program and several other city’s museums are as well. Children’s Museums in Miami, Raleigh, Las Vegas, Portland, Providence, Myrtle Beach, Portsmouth & Houston all participate this weekend. There are a number of additional Science museums as well!

General Admission: Varies Free this weekend

National Constitution Center – Philadelphia, PA

Debating the constitution seems to be popular these days so why not go directly to the source. Here is how the National Constitution Center is described according to their site, “The first and only institution in America established by Congress to “disseminate information about the United States Constitution on a non-partisan basis in order to increase the awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the American people.” Interesting stuff.

General Admission: $14.50 Free this weekend

Blithewold, Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum – Bristol, RI

I admit to being a sucker for gardens. Throw in a 45 room mansion and stunning views of the water and this looks to be a special place. It is described as, “…nationally significant in American history as one of the most fully developed and authentic examples of the Country Place Era.” I’m sold. Oh and the, “lovely gardens that range in character from mysterious to exotic and from poetic to practical” have me sold as well!

Conclusion

Every time this promotion comes along I like to look around and see some of the neat places I should plan to visit. I know the Museums on Us program only saves $10-$20 per person, but it has become a way for me to discover really cool places and I thankfully have enough BofA debit/credit cards to treat the whole family to a fun free afternoon.

What neat museums have you visited for free courtesy of Bank of America?
