My Latest Mini App-O-Rama – My Wife & I Went 3 for 4!

It is no secret that application approvals have been harder to come by these days.  I had not had an application since March and my wife hadn’t had one since January before this mini app spree. Part of it is because I am trying to get her under Chase 5/24 status which should happen in January.  The other part is that we had some decent upgrade, spending and authorized user offers we were working on.  I also needed to hit the $15K in spend for our Chase World of Hyatt cards and the Amex Surpass card.  But as the year is winding down I got the itch to grab some things so here are the results from our mini app-o-rama.

Applications

Here are our list of applications and results.  I focused on business cards for my wife since we are trying to get her under 5/24 status.

Mini App-O-Rama

American Express Delta Platinum Business Card

The first card we went for was the Amex Delta Platinum business card when it had the increased offers.  She was able to get 80,000 Delta Skymiles after spending $6,000.  The offer has since dropped to a skimpy 35,000 miles but the increased offers come around a few times per year.  She also got a $100 statement credit for any Delta purchase.

Those miles have already posted of which I used some to book a flight to Kyiv for 25,000 Delta Skymiles.  The one way ticket was going for $2,500 so I am doing pretty well so far with this one!

Results: Approved – 80,000 Delta Skymiles worth $1000

Citi American Airlines AAdvantage Credit Card

I had recently closed my American Airlines AAdvantage card after not getting a retention offer.  The card was no longer worth keeping long term after they nerfed the 10% mile redemption rebate.  But I was targeted for one of their offers that come with no lifetime language so I decided to give it another go around.  The offer was for 50,000 American Airlines miles after $2,500 in spend. Hopefully I can snag some more web special 5,000 mile flights!

Results: Approved – 50,000 American Airlines miles worth $700

Avianca Vuela Visa Card

The last card I went after was the Avianca card.  The offers were recently increased and this card now comes with a 60,000 mile welcome offer.  You get 40,000 miles after your first purchase and an additional 20,000 miles after spending $1,000.  The card does come with a $149 annual fee which is a little on the higher end.

Even though I HATE dealing with Lifemiles they have a lot of value to them.  It was also a plus that it was from a bank I haven’t had an application with before.  I plan on using them to fly home on Lufthansa on the trip to Kyiv and other places mentioned above.

Results: Approved – 60,000 LifeMiles worth $840

Final Thoughts

It ended up not being a bad little haul but nothing like it had been in previous years.  It was good to mix in some banks I don’t use often like Citi and Banco Popular.  I am not sure why BOA seems to be a stickler on business cards for some and not others.

The total haul should bring me a little over $2500 in value. That drops down to $2300 in net value when you take annual fees and statement credits into account.  I am pretty happy with that.  And I was able to do it without adding anything to my wife’s 5/24 status!
