National Car Rental Coronavirus Response
One of the nicer things to come out of this pandemic has been the fact that most travel companies have settled any questions when it comes to elite status. From airlines like American to hotel chains like Hyatt and Hilton (and many more), one by one they have stepped up and taken care of their most loyal customers when it comes to status.
National Car Rental is now jumping into the game with an announcement of their own. They will be extending elite status for a year while also providing rollover rental days. Let’s take a look at how that will work.
Emerald Club Elite Status Extension
National Car Rental is extending elite status for their members! Here is how the extensions will be granted for Emerald Club members.
Elite status will be extended. Current Executive and Executive Elite members with tier set to expire on February 28, 2021 will receive a one-year extension and keep their status through February 28, 2022.
Rollover Car Rental Nights
In addition to the extension of Emerald Club elite status, National is also rewarding customers who do rent this year. It’s a bit complicated and probably won’t apply to most people, however it is something to be aware of.
Qualifying rentals and rental days will roll over. If you achieve elite status in 2020, any paid rentals or paid rental days you have beyond your tier qualification will roll over to 2021 to give you a head start on earning toward elite status for 2022. Only the method in which you achieved elite status — either paid rentals or paid rental days — will roll over. For example: If you have 15 paid rentals this calendar year, and 12 paid rentals qualify you for Executive status, the remaining 3 rentals will roll over to 2021 and count toward elite qualification for the 2022 calendar year. If you don’t achieve elite status in 2020, all your paid rentals and paid rental days will roll over to 2021 and count toward elite qualification in 2022.
Free Rental Day Extension
While this isn’t new, National Car Rental has also extended the expiration dates for free rental days earned in their Emerald Club program. Any free days earned in 2019 are now good through the end of 2020.

National Car Rental Coronavirus Response – Bottom Line
National Car Rental is my go to company when I rent mostly because I am treated very well as an Executive Elite member. It is good to see they are taking care of their loyal customers while also rewarding those who rent from them this year.

Disappointed they haven’t extended this to the rental days earned through February as part of 1-2 Free promotion.
Well, one two free free rentals expire 6/15 for this year, and with current travel restrictions in place, an extension seems like the right thing for National to do.
Do you think this will apply to the “1, 2 free” Promotion?
I don’t think there is any overlap. 1 2 Free gives free certs that have their own expiration and it is already over for this year. I think when/if they run it later this year it won’t be until there is some stability and then normal rules would apply.
