Netflix is Breaking the Internet

Netflix is Breaking the Internet

We wrote a list of the best Free Trial Streaming Services out there, because many people are staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic. And that’s apparently becoming a problem. Netflix is one of the most popular platforms worldwide, and with the increased usage the internet is under unprecedented strain, from HD streaming especially.

CNN says that the internet and wireless networks in the United States are coming under huge pressure. CNN also reports that EU officials are concerned about the internet bandwidth being used by Netflix and other services. They are asking Netflix and users themselves to switch to standard definition, which uses less data that HD.

According to Netflix, streaming video in HD uses around 3GB data per hour, while standard definition uses around 0.7GB per hour. Netflix already adjusts the quality of streams based on the network capacity. You probably notice that when your internet connections has issues. With kids being home from school, popular games like Fortnite and Call Of Duty are also culprits.

Netflix is Breaking the Internet – Bottom Line

We think the internet breaking is probably not a good thing, so we may have to prepare for slightly more blurry videos in the near future. What do you think would happen if the internet broke under the weight of our video consumption? That probably wouldn’t be good.

  1. I have been predicting this event to everyone who would listen! It’s not just the streaming, consider the WFH video conferencing and Telecommuting. At the same time everybody is shopping online to avoid going out or because items aren’t available locally. The Internet is daily tolerant but not when the whole World is stressing the system. I hope we can limp through this but I have my doubts.
