New Amex Referrals, Earn Extra 4X on All Purchases for 3 Months
Today American Express has launched new referral offers for current cardmembers. If you invite a friend or family member to apply for a new card, you then earn 4X extra points on all purchases for three months. This is in addition to the points your Amex card already earns. The offer is available for cash back cards as well. Let’s see the details.
New Referral Offer
Earn additional points for 3 months, starting on the first date a referral made by you results in an approved account. That’s on top of the points you already earn. This offer can only be redeemed once.
You can earn: +4 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent (or an extra 4% cash back) on eligible purchases for 3 months, on up to $25k when you refer a friend to apply by 12/1 and they are approved.
Here’s how this offer would work:
- Blue Cash Everyday® Card Members who typically earns, among other rewards, 2% cash back at U.S. Gas Stations and 1% cash back on other purchases will earn 6% cash back at U.S. Gas Stations (2% + additional 4%) and 5% cash back on other purchases (1% + additional 4%) during the 3-month offer period.
- Green Card Members who typically earns, among other rewards, 3X Membership Rewards® Points at Restaurants will earn 7X (3X + additional 4 Points) during the 3-month offer period
- Business Platinum® Card Members who typically earns, among other rewards, 5X Membership Rewards® Points on flights and prepaid hotels on amextravel.com and 1X points on eligible purchases will earn 9X points for purchases on amextravel.com (5X + additional 4 Points) and 5X on other purchases (1X + additional 4 Points)
- Blue Business Plus Card Members who typically earn 2X Membership Rewards® Points on eligible purchases, will earn 6X (2X + additional 4 Points) during the 3-month offer period
Conclusion
With the old referrals you would earn 10,000 to 30,000 Membership Rewards points with a referral. That’s quite easy and doesn’t require any spending on your part.
With these new referrals you need to use your Amex card in order to earn points. But you have the opportunity to earn up to an additional 100,000 points, or $1,000 cash back. This could be a better proposition for those who already use their Amex cards heavily for restaurants, groceries etc.
