New Family Language on Morgan Stanley Platinum Card

American Express has three different flavors of the popular Platinum card. There’s The Platinum Card® from American Express which most readers are familiar with, and then The Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Charles Schwab and The Platinum Card from American Express Exclusively for Morgan Stanley.

These three card have small variations between them, but one of the main benefits of having multiple options was that they were considered separate products when it came to welcome bonus eligibility.

That recently changed when a family language was added to the plain Platinum Card and the Charles Schwab Platinum Card. Then, over the last few days, the same language was added to Morgan Stanley Platinum Card as first flagged by Travel on Points.

Here are the terms for welcome bonus eligibility on the Morgan Stanley Platinum card:

You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card, the Platinum Card®, the Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Charles Schwab or previous versions of these Cards. You also may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer based on various factors, such as your history with credit card balance transfers, your history as an American Express Card Member, the number of credit cards that you have opened and closed and other factors. If you are not eligible for a welcome offer, we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application.

Conclusion

We have seen this language added to several American Express card families. That includes personal Delta credit cards, Pay Over Time Cards, and more.

The regular Platinum Card and Charles Schwab Platinum Card already had this language so it was just a matter of time for the Morgan Stanley Platinum Card to get it as well.

But it’s worth noting that American Express nowadays lets you know during the application whether you are eligible. You can then choose if you want to apply without the bonus attached, or just cancel the application.

Also the terms state that “you may not be eligible”, which leaves room to receive a welcome bonus, even if you should not be eligible based on this new family language.
