OnePay and Synchrony to Launch New Walmart Card
OnePay announced this week a strategic partnership with Synchrony Financial to exclusively issue the Walmart credit card starting this fall.
OnePay is a consumer fintech backed by Walmart and Ribbit Capital. It currently offers offering a suite of banking, credit, and payments products such as cashback debit, high-yield savings, installment loans and a digital wallet.
Currently the Walmart credit card is backed by Capital One, but the two companies ended their relationship with Walmart suing the credit card issuer. Synchrony was the previous issuer of the Walmart credit card and that partnership also ended with a lawsuit in 2018.
OnePay and Synchrony have announced the launch of two new cards. One is a the Walmart branded credit card that can only be used for purchases at Walmart and there’s also a general purpose credit card that can be used anywhere that Mastercard is accepted. The credit card functionality will be embedded inside the OnePay app.
