Targeted Plastiq Promo For Money Back On Amex Payments
I just received an email from Plastiq for a discount, or rebate, for paying with my American Express card. It looks like this is a targeted offer and you need to be an email recipient to take advantage of it. Check your emails / spam folder for the following email subject line (plug in your own name).
- Hey Mark — Use your Amex and make $50
Plastiq wants to celebrate Amex being eligible for more payment options. The offer is as follows:
- Earn a $10 USD gift card for every $2,000 USD in total payments you make with your Amex card.
- Earn up to a $50 USD gift card for $10,000 USD in payments with your Amex card.
Here is a link to all of the payments you can make with Amex on Plastiq.
Is This A Good Deal?
I haven’t paid a ton of attention to Plastiq since they raised their fees and blocked gift cards from working as debit cards. This offer has me rethinking that a bit for one sole reason, welcome offer spending. I am in the midst of my Blue Business Plus $15,000 minimum spend for 50,000 points and this could get me the rest of the way there.
Normally the 2.85% fees make spending on Plastiq a wash at best, even with the great Blue Business Plus. But with this added bonus, plus the welcome offer, the tables have turned a bit.
By getting $10 off of $2000 that is a .5% reduction in cost. It reduces the fees essentially down to 2.35%. That still isn’t great but I am earning over 5 points per dollar with the normal 2X earning plus the welcome offer. Also, there is something to be said for easy pajama points!
Final Thoughts
This isn’t a good enough of an offer to change much of your current plans, unless you are working on a Amex welcome offer. Or, if you have one of those Business Platinum 150,000 point offers lying around but didn’t think you could hit the $15,000 in required spend. This Plastiq offer may bridge that gap. The opportunities are niche but they are there if you play it right.

Be careful. I made a $5000 payment and used 100 Fee free dollars and they disallowed the entire purchase toward the promo as they said I didn’t pay full fee, even though I paid full fee on $4900.
Ouch – that blows
