RadPad Pay Rent With Credit Card Free

RadPad Pay Rent With Credit Card Free

RadPad and Android Pay have announced a pretty incredible promotion for people who have to pay rent. That is because they are offering fee-free rent payment with a credit card through the end of the year. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

Pay Your Rent Online with RadPad, Android Pay and your Credit Card of Choice with no Fee through the end of 2016.

A Deeper Look

This sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Well, it really isn’t. RadPad has been around awhile and they normally charge 3.49% to pay with a credit card. Now as part of this new partnership with Android Pay and Stripe, they are running this promotion. Here is how it works:

You can now pay your rent online with a credit card and Android Pay on the RadPad app without your landlord even needing to know. They can get a check on your behalf from RadPad just like they always have. From now through the end of the year you can simply log into Pay with RadPad from an android device, sign up for Android Pay using the credit card of your choice, and  schedule your rent payments.

So in order to use this promotion, you need:

  • A RadPad account
  • An Android device with Android Pay
  • A credit card

Pretty simple and in case you are wondering, RadPad accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Basically, choose whichever card will give you the most rewards. For me that would be the BofA Travel Rewards card which gives me 2.625% cashback everywhere.

How Does RadPad Work?

If you have questions about how RadPad works, you can find answers to everything here. As a quick primer, you can only pay rent with this service (no other bills), your landlord does not need to sign-up (the only stipulation is that they accept third party checks) and you can only use one credit card to pay your rent.

Analysis

If you pay rent, then why not earn credit card rewards for doing it? While I would never pay 3.49% for paying rent, being able to earn rewards for free on a bill you have anyway is quite attractive. Debit card payments up to $5,000 are free all of the time, so maybe you’ll like the service enough to keep it going that way for convenience. Either way, I don’t see a downside here, although I do admit that I have not personally used RadPad.

  1. One sad but very important thing both RadPad and Android Pay neglect to tell you in this offer is that Android Pay does NOT have an agreement with CHASE bank (as of now). So any credit card that comes from CHASE, will not work with this offer (although it would still work with RadPad directly). This was very disappointing to learn when attempting to load my Marriott Rewards card into Android Pay. A quick click on their participating banks link (https://www.android.com/pay/supported-networks/) confirms this.

  2. Any chance of doing some MS through this… seems like it would be easy to list yourself as the landlord…

    • I am told that they somehow do their best to verify your landlord. I am also told that they understand the miles/points/ms world very well so it is hard to sneak stuff by them. My guess is in low numbers you might get away with something, but I doubt it would be worth it. I am just sad that we can’t pay mortgages!

    • Download the latest version of the RadPad app and pay with Android Pay through the app. It is on their blog and it works. Sorry I don’t know any way to explain it in any more depth than that.

  3. I’ve been using the AT&T Access More card on Plastiq (2% charge) to pay rent, as it codes as an online purchase and I get 3x TYP. Curious if this will code as 3x utilizing it through Android Pay. Now that would be a good return!
