Roundup of 5% Bonus Categories for Q2
Chase Freedom, Discover It and Citi Dividend are the three major 5% cashback credit cards with rotating bonus categories. The second quarter of 2020 is almost here so lets take a look at the 5% bonus categories for each card and some ideas on how to maximize each one.
Discover it 2020 Q2 Bonus Categories
The Discover It card will earn 5% cash back at Gas Stations, Uber, Lyft and Wholesale Clubs this upcoming quarter. Everyone already has some significant spend on groceries, although most people have probably done lots of shopping already. Gas stations will also be useful as are ride sharing services now that many people are avoiding public transportation.
You can earn 5% back on up to $1,500 in purchases per Discover card. If you have more than one then you get to have even more fun. Click here to activate 5%.
Chase Freedom Q2 2020 Bonus Categories
Chase Freedom categories for this upcoming quarter include Grocery Stores, and Gym Memberships. Grocery stores are always a popular category as everyone needs groceries and they also sell tons of gist cards. Most gyms are now closed due to coronavirus, so that category is probably useless for now. You can activate the 5% categories here.
Citi Dividend Q2 2020 Bonus Categories
Citi Dividend is unique to either the Discover it or Chase Freedom cards since you can earn all of your cashback ($300) total any time during the year in whichever category you choose. For Q2 they are offering 5% cashback at Amazon and Drugstores, both great categories. Many people are doing their shopping online on Amazon right now and they are having tons of sales. You can sign up for this quarter here and make sure you sign up prior to making a qualifying purchase.
The Dividend card isn’t available to the public anymore, but you may be able to product change over another card to it. You can find the calendar here.
Conclusion
There are some good categories this quarter between Amazon, Grocery Stores, Wholesale Clubs and Drugstores. Make sure to maximize the cash back for each card.

Gyms are most likely due to be closed for the foreseeable future, very possibly for the entire quarter! Hoping Chase swoops in soon and changes that category or adds another since we will not be able to take full advantage… but then again, I’m betting they won’t.
