Sesame Place San Diego Announced
SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment is expanding once again, but it isn’t quite what you think. In case you don’t know, the company owns several properties including SeaWorld parks in Orlando, San Antonio and San Diego plus Busch Gardens parks in Williamsburg and Tampa. They also have a handful of water parks near their theme park locations and Discovery Cove which is a high-end boutique water/animal park experience in Orlando.
The final property owned by SeaWorld Parks is Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA. Targeted towards young children, this park entertains with some age appropriate rides (including one coaster!) and shows all themed around Sesame Street. I haven’t been yet, but a visit with Ellie is in the plans.
A New Sesame Place Is Coming
Back in 2017 the company announced it was going to build a second Sesame Place by 2021, but didn’t specify further details. With 2021 around the corner, they finally have announced details of the “new” park which will be located in Chula Vista, CA and will be a re-theme of the existing Aquatica theme park the company acquired in 2013 from Cedar Fair.
Details are scarce as of yet, but from the concept art makes it looks like most or all of the existing water park slides and pools will stay and get a retheme. There are also a number of rides that we can see being added including what looks like a roller coaster! I’m sure they will have great Sesame Street themed entertainment as well.
An Exciting Addition for Families
When SeaWorld purchased the water park from Cedar Fair I always thought it was a bit strange. In San Antonio and Orlando the Aquatica parks are next door to SeaWorld, while the properties in San Diego are 24 miles apart. That makes it a bit tougher to get any synergy, although to be fair there is nowhere to build a water park close to SeaWorld as far as I can tell.
I’m really excited for this expansion and re-theme of Aquatica and the addition of rides. As shown the park looks very nicely done and should provide a fun day of shows, activities and swimming for the whole family. With Legoland California not far away in Carlsbad, San Diego may just become the toddler theme park capital of the California! 🙂 I can’t wait to find out more.
