Singapore Airlines Launches Points Pooling Option for Families
Singapore Airlines has announced a positive change for its lets its KrisFlyer members. You are now able to share frequent flyer miles with family members through the newly launched ‘KrisFlyer for Families‘ program.
Families can pool miles so that family units can now enjoy rewards much quicker than before. But the new option also comes with a fee.
Starting today, parents and guardians can link their children’s KrisFlyer accounts to theirs, and from Aug. 18 2021, they will be able to transfer miles from their children’s KrisFlyer accounts to their account. Up to 5 child accounts can be linked to one adult KrisFlyer account, and a cap of 50,000 KrisFlyer miles per child’s account each calendar year can be transferred.
A child must be at least w years old to be eligible for a KrisFlyer account. Child-parent accounts will be automatically unlinked when the child turns 16.
There’s also a small incentive to start linking your accounts now if you plan to do this at all. Parents and guardians who link their child’s account to theirs between now and Aug. 31, will receive a bonus of 500 KrisFlyer miles.
So now that we got all the good stuff out of the way, let’s look at the fees involved. For every 5,000 KrisFlyer miles (or part thereof) transferred from your child’s account, you will be charged a fee of $5 or 500 miles. That’s a bit steep in my opinion, and it gets even worse if you transfer less than 5,000 KrisFlyer miles.
