SPG 2018 Hotel Category Changes
SPG announced its annual category changes will take effect on March 6, 2018. Please note that the hotels and resorts listed below are only hotels and resorts with category changes. Take a moment to review these changes now to maximize your Starpoints®. If your favorite hotel or resort is moving up to a higher category, you can still book now at the current redemption rate before the 2018 category changes go into effect.
Category Changes
As it is usually the case with these category changes, there’s more SPG hotels that are getting more expensive. A total of 276 SPG hotels are changing categories this year. 145 hotels are getting more expensive and 131 hotels are getting less expensive. You can see all the changes here.
Conclusion
In general, there’s no major changes here from a quick look at the list. It is normal for hotels to move up or down in categories. But it could mean big changes if you were eyeing any of these properties and they suddenly get more expensive. Take a moment to review these changes now, if you have upcoming plans on SPG properties. If your favorite hotel or resort is moving up to a higher category, you can still book now at the current redemption rate before the 2018 category changes go into effect. If it’s moving down, then hopefully you can wait till then to book your reward stay.
