SPG Amex 35K Offer

SPG Amex 35K Offer

SPG Starpoints are among the most valuable points around. They can be worth a lot for SPG hotel redemptions and even more when transferring to airline partners at a 20K:25K ratio. Unfortunately there aren’t many ways to earn them, so when the bonus on the SPG cobranded American Express card is increased, it is big news.

Best Ever Offers

SPG Amex 35K Offer

Through March 30, 2016 American Express has increased the bonus on both the personal and business versions of their Starwood Preferred Guest credit cards.

The offers are as follows:

This 35K bonus represents the highest bonus ever offered on either of these cards. For the past several years the bonus has increased to 30K during the summer, however as far as I know, there has never previously been an offer higher than 30K.

Card Benefits

The SPG credit cards also come with the following benefits:

  • Earn 2X points on Starwood purchases and 1X on everything else.
  • No foreign transaction fees.
  • Receive free in-room, premium Internet access. Booking requirements apply.
  • Enjoy complimentary, unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi on up to four devices at more than 1,000,000 Boingo hotspots worldwide.
  • Receive credit for 5 nights and 2 stays towards SPG® Elite status each year.

Additionally, the business card also adds Sheraton club lounge access on eligible stays.

Once Per Lifetime

Both the SPG personal and business cards have a “once per lifetime” bonus rule. This means that you cannot receive a bonus on either of these products if you have ever held that version of the card before. Since the business and personal cards are separate products, you CAN receive a bonus on the business card if you have only had the personal before and vice-versa.

Referrals

SPG Amex 35K Offer

If you currently have one of the SPG cards then you can login to your American Express account and refer friends to this 35K offer and earn 5K points per successful referral.

How to Apply

You can find both the personal and business 35K offers directly on the American Express website or via the links above. It is a widespread offer so you should be able to apply through most channels that offer American Express cards.

Conclusion

This is the best ever bonus for a card that rarely has special offers. Normally the bonus increases to 30K once per year in the summer, so this is an nice surprise. Unfortunately it comes shortly after Amex has tightened their rules for churners, but if you haven’t had one of these cards before, they may be worth applying for considering the value of Starpoints.

  1. Hi Shawn I am thinking about getting the AMEX spg card can one use the card for MS,debit cards? I read your blog every day have learned a lot ,keep up the good work. Thank you Randy

  2. Wonder if this is good or bad news or they are just overloaded:

Your application will be processed as soon as possible, and we will notify you of the decision by mail within 14 days.

    Thank you for applying!

  3. shawn or anyone,

currently have 5 personal amex cards (SPG, Hilton, BC, Everyday, Costco), anyone knows that amex will or may approve the business SPG as the 5th one? TIA

  4. I got targeted for Amex business gold card 75k MR for $5000 spend. I’d love to pick up this SPG too…Shawn do you think getting one now-ish would preclude being approved for the other later in the month? All three bureaus over 770, have one Amex credit card (everyday preferred) for almost a year and one charge (PRG) open for 6 mo. I’d say 10 EX HPs, less than 5 on the others

  5. Wow! Awesome deal! Too bad I just applied & received about two weeks ago at the 25,000 bonus. I however did online chat with AMEX. I explained the situation. Great customer service rep talked to the superviser, told me they normally would do nothing. She said they would process my request for the extra 10,000 points. Got off online chat & the points are in my account already. That’s awesome service! Thanks for the heads up Shawn.

  6. On the fence on this one. I signed up for the Chase Ink (hope I get approved) instead because I’m worried about what Marriott will do with Starwood points down the road. If Chase denies me on the 5/24 rule then I’ll circle back to this card. It’s a damn good bonus for sure considering what they usually offer.

      • I have an ink already on my ssn. Chase has sent me a pre approved ink offer. Do I stand a chance to one more ink on my ssn? I have far exceeded the 5/24 number though

        • Probably not and the application most likely states you aren’t eligible for the bonus if you have received a bonus on the Ink for the same business within the past 24 months. If you have a separate business it may be possible, but I would consider it unlikely.

      • I was between this card and the Citi AA Biz but took the biz card 50k offer on the final day. Would have been a tougher decision at 35 k!
