Targeted Welcome Bonuses with No Lifetime Language
American Express limits welcome offers on credit cards to just once per lifetime. The fine print on most offer states that they “are not available to applicants who have or have had this Card.” Lifetime, as far as American Express is concerned, is normally seven years.
But rarely we also see some offers that do not contain this language in the terms. That means that you are able to get a second bonus on the same card even if you have recently received one. These types of offers are usually sent out by email, but some people are now being targeted in a different manner.
Doctor of Credit reports that some people are seeing welcome offers in the Amex Offers section in their account which have no lifetime language. Just scroll down to your offers and check if you have any such offers and also look for the terms. If you can’t find the following language, “not available to applicants who have or have had this Card,” it means that you should be eligible for another welcome bonus even if you recently received one. It coudl also show up as a banner at the top of the page, inviting you to apply for a card.
Some of the offers that are showing up are:
- Business Gold – 35,000 Points
- Business Platinum – 75,000 Points w/ $15K Spend
- Personal Platinum – 60,000 Points w/ $5K Spend
- Blue Cash Preferred – $300 w/ $3K Spend
Conclusion
These offers are a good opportunity to get another welcome bonus on cards that you have had in the past. So even if it not the best offer available, it is an offer that you will not be eligible for otherwise. If you have never had the Business Platinum card for example, you could be able to get a 95K welcome bonus through referrals. Even the personal Platinum card has offered a 75K bonus recently through referrals.
Let us know if you see any of these bonuses in your Amex Offers.
