US To End Testing Requirement For Entry To The Country

I have great news to bring you this Friday morning. CNN is reporting that it is expected the Biden administration will finally announce that the covid testing requirement for entry into the United States via air travel will be lifted this weekend.

The move is expected go into effect for US-bound air travelers at midnight on Sunday. This will put the United States in line with many other countries across the world and will match the current requirements for land or sea entry.
The CDC is lifting the requirement after determining it was no longer necessary “based on the science and data,” the official said (per CNN). They plan on reassessing things in 90 days and will give their recommendation at that time.  If things have drastically changed by then, like a new more contagious variant causing problems, then they may recommend reinstating the requirement.
This is after pressure had been mounting from the travel industry and even government officials. The general public was mostly behind dropping the requirement as well. The requirement has hindered the important tourist industry across the country for over a year now.
This change is coming just in time for the crazy summer travel season. We have already seen prices out of control, cancellations piling up and planes jammed packed. Does this change add more fuel to that fire? Or, does it let the air out of the domestic travel bubble a bit since people will likely start looking at more international destinations? It will be interesting to see going forward.
I did mention on this week’s podcast that Shawn would end up carrying around those tests  for no reason. It appears that joke has become truth (no thanks needed), since he will no longer need the tests to come back to the US.

  1. Sleepy Joe must have awoken from his nap. A day late and a lot of dollars short for me. I was one of those vaccinated individuals who got stuck overseas for an extra week at great time and expense.

    • Yes, I got stuck in England in April and my wife got stuck in Germany in June. Not a pleasant way to end an otherwise nice trip.

  2. FAR too late. I’d like the 32 euros I spent a week ago yesterday to get back to the USA. It was a complete scam, too. Pre-printed Negative forms and a BS test that took less than 1 minute. Asinine.
