Vacasa Negative Change for Wyndham Rewards Bookings
Back in 2021 Wyndham announced the addition of more than 15,000 new vacation rentals to its global redemption portfolio through a relationship with vacation rental platform Vacasa.
This turned out to be the best redemption option for Wyndham Rewards points. Wyndham prices vacation rental free night redemptions at 15,000 points per bedroom per night. So a studio or one-bedroom apartment for example would cost 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night, and a three-bedroom house costs 45,000 points per night.
Additionally, Wyndham credit card members receive a 10% rebate when redeeming Wyndham points for award stays. So cardholders would pay just 13,500 points per bedroom per night when booking Vacasa properties.
Until now you could book rental properties that cost up to $500 per bedroom per night, including taxes and fees. That meant a value of up to 3.7 cents per Wyndham Rewards points. This wasn’t publicly stated, but it had been coded into their booking system.
That cap has been lowered, possibly as of yesterday. Bookings are limited to properties that cost up to $350 per bedroom per night. That limits the maximum value to just 2.6 cpp for Wyndham cardholders.
Conclusion
This change doesn’t affect those who were booking properties that cost up to $350 per bedroom per night. You will still get the same value for your Wyndham Rewards points.
But many of the better Vacasa vacation rentals will not be available to book with Wyndham Rewards points. So the maximum value you can now get is just 2.6 cents per point.
