Walmart Amex Offer
American Express has released a new targeted Amex Offer giving $15 off purchases of $35 or more at Walmart.com. The offer expires 12/31/15 and can only be loaded to your account on the American Express website. So far, there haven’t been any reports of prepaid Serve or Bluebird cards being targeted.
My Experience
Based on my experience and the reports of others, this is a highly targeted offer. My wife received it on two of her cards, however none of my cards were targeted. Thankfully I found it shows up towards the top of available offers, so it isn’t hard to see if you have been targeted or not. I would probably go in and load this offer if you have it, since they may have a maximum number of redemptions, even though it is targeted.
What to Buy?
Note that this offer is good only at Walmart.com and not in-store. That is alright though because Walmart.com sells a ton of stuff including a wide variety of merchandise and gift cards. If you want to get something in-store you could always buy a Walmart gift card and then use that in-store when you receive it.
Terms
- Valid online only.
- If you order an item during the offer period but it is not sent until after 12/31/2015, it may not count towards determining whether the purchase qualifies for the offer.
- Excludes phone orders.
- Excludes corporate gift card purchases.
- Excludes Gift Card Reloads,Walmart Contacts, Walmart Checks, Walmart Photo Services, Walmart Stationary, Babybox, Walmart’s Grocery Pickup/Delivery service, Walmart MoneyCenter, Insurance services, Walmart.Moneygram.
- Excludes Sam’s, Neighborhood Market, Walmart To Go, Vudu, Marketside. Excludes orders placed online and shipped but paid for in-store.
- Valid only on US website.
Conclusion
While we only we targeted twice, this offer will still mean $30 more in our pockets, since I can always find merchandise or gift cards to purchase at Walmart. While I wish this was more widely available, I’ll take what I can get! Were you targeted? How many cards? Let us know in the comments!

Still $15 free is not a bad thing
Reports so far is that WM is cancelling physical gift card orders once they determine you are using an Amex card. Gift card purchases using a Visa or M/C will likely go through. The order processes, then they cancel.
WM is actually violating the offer terms in their contract with Amex. Typical of them and Sam’s Club as this has happened before.
That is terrible. With the Sam’s Club deal things died down eventually, so I will probably wait a little while.
It appeared on two of my oldest cards. Yay
Oh never mind. If I remember from the last time this happened I found out Walmart charges a fee to ship to Hawaii even on free shipping items so u wasn’t able to use it last time because I would lose money
Maybe eGift cards?
3/13 or so for me, all personal (e.g. not business) cards. 3/15 or so for the wife. Again all personal. Most of mine were down near the bottom of the “Load More Offers” pile so not as easy (though Ctrl-F still works of course). Hilton HHonors, SPG Personal, EveryDay Preferred (e.g. the Tina Fey card).
What kind of gift cards are acceptable? My HHonors AE had the offer.
anyway to earn miles or cash back by buying or using giftcards
Do you know if anyone has tried to get a physical gift card from them. I’m seeing on other sites that there are errors on their site if you try to buy a physical gift card with Amex
I haven’t tried yet. If it isn’t working you can always buy an eGift card.
The offer says it excludes gift cards.
Excludes corporate gift cards. That generally means when companies buy gift cards in bulk.
Can you tell us what type of amex card was targeted so I can check those first?
The offers were on Blue cards.
My Hilton and old Amex blue cash
Any shipping or handling on the gift cards? I also seem to recall an intricate process to activating Wal Mart gift cards (i.e. they are NOT immediately ready for use when received).
I think the activation issue had to do with Sam’s Club cards. You can order for store pickup I believe or shipping is free.
Either I’m unlucky (0-fer a lot of cards), this is HIGHLY targeted, or your theory about the max number of redemptions is true. Oh well.
I was 1/10. It came up on wife’s account. Better than 0!
