Walt Disney World Reopening Disney Springs
Currently all Disney parks in the world are closed. Earlier this week we learned that Shanghai Disneyland will be the first park to reopen it’s doors on May 11 and now we know Walt Disney World will slowly come back to life as well, but without Disney for now.
Disney Springs Reopening Announced
The Walt Disney Company has announced a phased reopening of Disney Springs will begin on May 20, 2020, but without Disney. What does that mean? Disney Springs is essentially a mall with most stores being occupied by third party vendors. Disney is going to allow these businesses to reopen, however anything owned by Disney will remain shuttered for now.
A phased reopening of Disney Springs will begin on May 20. Following the guidance of government and health officials, a limited number of shopping and dining experiences that are owned by third-party operating participants will begin to open during this initial phase. The rest of Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed, including theme parks and resort hotels.
A Limited Reopening With More Information to Come
While Disney Springs will be open as of May 20, 2020, don’t expect everything to be back to normal. The company has announced new protocols including increased cleaning, the use of face masks by guests and cast members and additional safety training. The number of guests will also be limited and hours will be altered as well.
When Will Disney Bring Back Cast Members?
Disney didn’t release any information as to when their own stores would return nor when any of their resort hotels or theme parks would open. They did say the following, “We will apply learnings and ideas from leaders in the health and travel industries, and we’re also talking to our unions as we prepare for some cast members to return to work.”
Walt Disney World Reopening Disney Springs – Bottom Line
Disney Springs is getting ready to partially reopen with some third party vendors coming back on May 20, 2020. Disney also seems to be negotiating for the return of some cast members as well. There are signs of life at Walt Disney World, but it will be quite some time until the mega resort returns to even a semblance of normal.

Social distancing rules will definitely be broken
They’re reopening Disney Springs so they can collect rent. The stores in Disney Springs meets Florida guide lines for reopening. If Disney kept Disney springs closed they could not legally collect rent from their tenants.
