Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Timeshare Offer

My Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Timeshare Offer

I am the king of timeshare offers it seems.  I have seen some really good ones from Maui to Disney and even Los Cabos.  This latest one is for a AAA 4 diamond rated resort in Cancún. It is also the highest rated Westin in the world according to U.S. News. The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort sent me an offer that would give me 5 days in paradise for essentially the price of one night.

Details of the Offer

The offer for the Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort is as follows:

If you are unsure of your travel dates you can pay $199 and then pay the remaining $70 when you go to book it.

Breaking Down the Numbers

I did some spot reservation checking and the rooms were at least $200+ per night when accounting for taxes.  That puts the value of the 4 nights at a minimum of $800.

If you wanted to attack this from the points aspect it is 50,000 points a night.  That would be a cost of 200,000 points for 4 nights.  At a value of $0.0075 each you are looking at a cost of $1500 which is terrible value during the cheap season.  But if you did use points you would get the fifth night free dropping the cost down to 40,000 points per night.  That is still a cost of $1200 for 4 nights in points.

The resort credit or points are worth between $75-$112.50 depending on which one you take.  I will use round numbers and call the overall value you get from the offer a minimum of $900 and potentially much more.  When you subtract out the $269 fee you are coming away with at least $631 worth of value to sit through a timeshare presentation.  That is not the crazy value we saw from Hyatt and Maui but Cancún is a lot easier to get to than Hawaii.

Conclusion

I don’t think this offer will fit into my travel schedule although I plan on talking with my wife about it.  Cancún is a short 3 hour flight from me and this would be a very affordable vacation.  The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort looks beautiful and I am sure I would enjoy staying there.  If you have stayed there before let me know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. I just got this offer, how are the prices on food? I heard you are not required to go to the timeshare presentation.

  2. Extremely safe resort and area here. My husband went out to see a playoff game one evening and had to show IDs to security to get back on the grounds. Incredible timeshare on par with our favorite Hyatt Kaanapali Residence Club. We visit both yearly. Staff are incredibly hospitable and friendly. They have a huge negative edge pool with swim up bar over the ocean. Presentation is low pressure and short. We absolutely love this resort

  3. I NEVER end up with ANY out of pocket expenses from time share presentation. It must be at least break even or I profit. If that is not offered I tell them I refuse to pay to sit through sales presentation. Has always worked. New trick is you only get to visit resort, not stay there. Also a no go. I simply say I am willing to go but must stay on property to decide and or I am not paying to attend sales presentation. Recently stayed at Riviera Maya outside Cancun for a week and I’m doing $day/3nt outside Phoenix over Christmas prior to 1 week Puerto Penasco Riviera Maya for a week! Never pay to be subjected to high pressure sales! LOL

  4. We did this deal 2 years ago, but stayed at the old Westin. They drove us up to the Lagunamar for the time share pitch and to see the suites. We were invited to have lunch at Lagunamar as well. I liked a club room at the old Westin better than Lagunamar – fewer kids. We’re retired and don’t enjoy screaming kids.

Hubby and I do a fair number of time share pitch deals. We are honest up front that we have no intention to buy and we only came for the deal. I listen to their pitch. They try to change our minds, bring in a manager, etc. We are firm and polite, as are they. I explain that i use points and miles, but if that system goes away, time share might make sense , so I’m doing my research. I speculate that is why I keep getting invitations. Who knows.

Westin gave us another one this past winter + an extra $150 to spend on property. We went to Los Cabos in January. We booked a couple of nights at the adjacent Club Regina via Hotels.com (Discover points) before our Westin stay and they gave us free breakfast + $150 to use on property to listen to a pitch. In April, we went to DC during Cherry Blossoms on a Wyndham deal. The best part is that they put us up in an Autograph Collection hotel, not the Wyndham time share.

Hilton sent a deal for Orlando or Vegas – $199 + a few points for 4 nights . No thanks.

  5. I got the offer as well, this Westin happens to be my Starwood Vacation Ownership home resort. We absolutely love it, great for the kids and look forward to return to the resort every time. I did jump into the offer, really happy with it.

      • Yeah, think about it. As for the presentation, hmm when it starts I say, I just have no cares to upgrade my membership, I came here for my points, period, thats not their job, but have had no issues. And for safety concerns, never had a problem with the kids or us.. I feel far more insecure in DC, Detroit or Nola to be honest…

  6. Great negative edge pool and beach. The staff here are wonderful. All rooms face the ocean . There is no need to rent a car. Buses run every 3 min. We took a shuttle to and from the airport. Lots of good restaurants are close and the mall is across the street. We go for a week once or twice a year. It’s an easy plane ride with our SW companion pass. I wish I could get the deal you are being offered.

  7. We really love this property. Have stayed here 4-5x. Years ago it was a great Cat 4 redemption. Super good deal. Kids love the pools and water slide. Tons of activities. Rooms starting to show wear, needs renovating, but far from horrible. Always awesome to have kitchen and laundry when traveling with kids. Great location across from mall. Problem with Cancun for us was the safety issue. After traveling here 7+ years in a row, we no longer felt safe. We had issues where we were bribed by police, etc. Just decided it was no longer for us.

    • That was one thing I was worried about if we took the kids. I thought the safety issues had been kept out of the hotel zone area but thanks for sharing that.

  8. “Must attend a presentation for their vacation club.”

Are you Kidding??? Sit through a high-pressure presentation by to worst salespersons in the world (unethical and liars).

  9. I disagree it’s “meh”. It’s a really great property if you have kids. I used points there a few years ago and got a 2 bedroom suite and it was really spacious, well located (right across from the Mall there). Great beaches and HUGE pool. The breakfast daily was pretty good as well in the buffet.

I’d DEFINITELY jump on that deal for so cheap for 4 nights/5days. People bag on Cancun but it has some of the best beaches anyway.

  10. So where do we click to take advantage of this offer? Or were you just telling us about your offer that we can not use?

    • I was just sharing my offer so people know what is out there right now. You can try contacting the property and see if they will give you anything similar.

  11. @kyle shanahan There are 2 Westin hotels in Cancun . This is supposed to be the “better” one, but, I would concur… meh.

  12. We are SPG Vacation owners and go to this property about every 2 years. We love it. It is a timeshare resort, so perhaps more family friendly than luxurious.

  13. The Westin in Cancun is meh. Its certainly not a 4Diamond Resort. There are 10 hotels better than this in Cancun

  14. With these timeshare offers aren’t there restrictions that you cannot stay over any holiday weekend (or even staying on weekends costs a surcharge), plus there’s taxes/resort-fees etc?

    • I think it goes by availability. I didn’t see any restrictions of dates in the terms but they may block off those times etc. I am sure there is sales tax but it does not mention anything about resort fees etc.
