Air Travel Gets Worse, Airlines Are No Longer Serving Booze

Air travel is starting to pick up in recent weeks, but for those who are starting to travel, the experience is quite different from pre-pandemic times. TSA procedures have changed and masks are required in airports and on board.

But it gets worse. Some of the U.S. airlines are now banning alcoholic beverages in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“In an effort to reduce physical touch points between customers and employees,” Delta Air Lines banned the sale or consumption of alcohol on all domestic flights. There’s no booze on flights to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Central America either.

American Airlines is also limiting alcohol and food service depending on the destination and how long the flight is. Spirits will be available in first class and on longer international flights.

JetBlue has also stopped serving beer, wine and liquor products for purchase in Economy. First-class JetBlue flyers will be able to order pre-packaged booze and meals.

Southwest has been providing cans of water and straws on flights longer than 250 miles, while service on all other flights is suspended. They did extend their drink coupons though.

Alaska Airlines is not offering alcohol at all on flights less than 350 miles. For longer flights, premium and first-class passengers still have the option of drinking ob board.

  1. YOU ALL FORGOT ONE MAJOR THING HERE. DON’T YOU PAY FOR YOUR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON THE PLANE UNLESS YOUR ONE OF THE ELITE TRAVELERS AND GET IT FREE. I PERSONALLY BRING 3 OF MY OWN BEVERAGE IN THOSE LITTLE BOTTLES AND ALL I ASK FOR IS A CUP OF ICE. LOL. SO SINCE WHEN CAN YOU CATCH THIS BULLS–T VIRUS FROM A BOTTLE. THEIR GOING TO FAR WITH THESE RULES. YOU MIGHT AS WELL SLAM THE CASKET LID DOWN NOW ON YOURSELF BECAUSE EVERYTHING YOU EXPECT FROM LIFE AND WORKED HARD FOR IS BEING TAKEN AWAY.

  2. I hear some airlines are now removing the glass from their windows rather than blocking middle seats for cost cutting/health reasons. According to the CDC your risk for catching COVID-19 is lower in unconfined spaces and much lower yet if you get sucked out the window.

  3. It’s only going to get worse. Every obviously BS cost cutting measure will be justified as “For health reasons”. Similar to the silly 30 minute sitdown rule in and out of DCA after 9/11 they didn’t have to do any service on Shuttle flights because of “the terrorists”. Goodbye hotel lounges, free breakfast and just about any other expected elite benefits. Its all gone……for your health

  4. Funny how some airlines are banning booze only for coach customers, when booze is the only thing that makes the coach experience bearable.

Time to start doing a lil byob on the sly

  5. What in the world!!! Did I misunderstand something? Is it ALL beverage service or just alcohol beverages? That makes no sense at all beside the airline trying to cut cost. I don’t drink much but on long flights I enjoy a wine to help me sleep. On future travel I was going to ask for anything over 70% so I can use it as a sanitizer to prevent Coronavirus 🙂
How will we use our 8 x Drink vouchers for being a Delta Platinum or maybe some compensation for preventing us from using our earned benefits?
