Breaking News: Amex and Chase Will Share Issuing Rights for Marriott
Today, we finally learned which issuer has won the battle for Marriott. Ladies and Gentlemen, the winner is YOU. Although, if we had to pick the winner between issuers, we’re going with Amex because they were certainly the under-dog in this fight. According to Bloomberg, Amex and Chase will have dual issuing rights for Marriott’s Collection of cards. New co-branded products will be released sometime next year. Until then, things will remain as-is with Amex carrying SPG and Chase carrying Marriott.
Why Should You Be Excited?
What’s really interesting, is the supposed break down of cards by issuer. Amex will issue a super premium card and a small business card, while Chase will issue mass-consumer and premium-consumer versions. What does that mean exactly? Both issuers will release new products next year. I don’t want to go overboard here, but this is the most exciting credit card announcement, I’ve heard in a long time.
I am so excited about the idea of earning four new sign-up bonuses for one of my favorite hotel programs.
While we don’t know how the merge will affect either Loyalty Program’s members, we do know that there will be several opportunities to earn points with these new cards. SPG Card holders should be especially happy given Amex’s once per lifetime rule. This would be a great time to sign-up for the SPG Personal Card (Details here) and the SPG Business Card (Details here). Note: Normally I would wait for a better sign-up bonus on these cards, but 25,000 SPG points is extremely valuable and I would hate to see you miss out on the opportunity.
