Amex British Airways Membership Rewards Transfer Bonus Ends Today

As a reminder, today is the last day to get a 40% bonus when transferring American Express Membership Rewards points to British Airways Avios (U.S. only).

A lot has been discussed this week regarding the British Airways devaluation. I am personally glad that the announcement came when it did, so I was able to better evaluate how many points to transfer.

How Many Points Did I Transfer?

After weighing out all the options, I decided to go all-in, because the redemptions I make with the British Airways program did not really change. More importantly, with the devaluation coming in April, it is likely going to be a couple of years before they make any other changes to the award chart.

In the end, I had about 115,000 Membership Rewards points sitting in my account after the 75k bonus on the Business Rewards Gold card recently posted. I ultimately decided to transfer 105,000, netting me 147,000 brand spanking new Avios.

Conclusion

If you are waiting for pending Membership Rewards points to post, you may be able to get them expedited so that you can take advantage of the bonus.

How many points did you end up transferring? Did the devaluation make you alter that number? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Is it wise to use the Avios points for the experiences offer at the BA site.
I have used what I needed for our Aer Lingus tix..
    Thanks for your input.

  2. Really wanted to redeem for a HKG trip via Cathay :/ in a year and a half. Decided to only transfer about 50K total. I live in Washington State so it offers really awesome value for short hauls up and down the west coast.
