Amex Chat Is Not Working

Since the beginning on last week, at least, Amex chat has been down for most people I talk to. We have had questions and reports of it in our Facebook groups and I have received emails and Slack messages on it constantly for the last week and a half. Because of that I figured it was worth a quick PSA that, no, you are not going insane and there is nothing wrong with your Amex account.

It doesn’t matter if you are logged in online or if you are going through the app, chat has vanished from both. I reached out to the Ask Amex Twitter team to see if they knew what was going on / had details when things should be up and running again. They couldn’t help with any info.

I haven’t had a chance to call in to see if I could get any info there. If I do I’ll be sure to update it here. If you have some retention offers you needed to chase down or cards you needed to cancel it looks like a phone call is in your near future. I hope this gets ironed out soon because there are a lot of potential spouse points that will need to be burned by us if Amex chat is not working for a long period of time.

  1. @Serion, yep, clicked and it does indeed work. I actually asked the chat rep who said that they could create a ticket but didn’t know of any technical issues on their end.

  2. Another thing is that the card button to change the card you are viewing (in the upper right of the page when logged in) sometimes disappears. You’re stuck on the one card. If this happens, try incognito.

  3. Interesting…when I log into P2’s account, the chat button is there, when I log into my account, nothing. Tried closing the browser. Tried different browsers and even different computers. Incognito made no difference. P2 account, chat button but nothing when I log into my own. Strange.
