The Amex Offers Bad News Appears to Be True: Offers Very Limited Now

Amex Offers Negative Changes

Last week I covered the news that some people were reporting that offers were disappearing from cards across logins once loaded to a single card. While I am still not sure exactly how this is happening, here is what I observed this morning.  (See my post from last week for more background.)

My Experience

This morning I was loading the Best Buy Amex Offer. Once it was loaded to an AU card in my name and an AU card in my wife’s name, it disappeared from ALL of our other cards across 10 logins. I did find it on one other card in my name that doesn’t have my middle initial so the name was slightly different. Others in our Facebook community have shared similar experiences.

A Workaround?

I am going to be keeping my eyes open, but as of this time I don’t know of a workaround for this since it works across logins. I was using the old interface as well and that didn’t appear to help. In the past I would have been able to load this offer to 40+ cards, but today only got it on 3 cards.

Conclusion

We’ll continue to keep you informed about these new developments, but it is indeed true that Amex has some sort of system trying to prevent the same person from using the same offer more than once. This will definitely force me to reconsider which cards I keep going forward since I have been willing to pay for annual fees in order to take advantage of these often generous offers.

  1. Shawn wrote “In the past I would have been able to load this offer to 40+ cards”. Did you ever hear the saying “Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered?

    • Between my wife and I and our 3 businesses we have 18 Amex cards. With adding each other as an AU we have 36 and my son has a few AU cards. This offer was originally on all of them. Bring your obviousness elsewhere.

  2. The answer may be in the T&C on the particular offers. On mine, the Macy’s offer says limit one “per AE online account,” but others say “limit one “per AE card across all channels.” I haven’t seen the first limit before.

  3. Have 7 amex cards presently in family accounts — use 3 different logins. Saw the offer on 6 of the 7 that I’m sure of. For the six personal accounts, proceeded to logon via 3 browsers (not just multiple tabs) plus three more via incognito modes. (that is, same logins were used multiple times, simultaneously) Managed then to load 5 bb offers within a minute total. Not sure where the 6th went. (may have gotten confused betwixt all the browsers…. ;-( ) Alas, saved the only amex business account (SPG) for last — and offer wasn’t there. (not sure it was there to begin with)

  4. I have 6 cards in 5 log ins. First log in account has 2 cards in it. I loaded the Best buy in one of them. When I logged in on the other 4 accounts, offer was not there (not sure if it was there and disappeared or if never there) 🙁
If it will stay this way, Some cards will definitely get dropped…

  5. I had 5 x $20 off hilton GC purchases, loaded all 5. Then the orders were canceled 9 days later….wonder if this is related.

  6. I have 8 cards with the same login and no AU cards. I loaded it to all of my cards. However, when I refreshed I see I lost some of my offers. None of the new offers but it seems to cap at 100 AmEx offers. I went from 108 to 100 and 116 to 100. The cards with less than 100 kept the same total amount. I load all offers even if I know I will never use them. I probably won’t do that anymore since I’m not sure which offers fell off.

  7. I have 5 cards using the same login and the issue is happened on my cards too. I was able to load only one card but the rest are not working at all. It looks not right!

  8. It still worked for me. I loaded the Best Buy, Buybuybaby and bed bath and beyond offers across multiple cards using the new interface and multiple browsers this morning. I logged out and I logged back in after seeing your post and they were still there. It worked for my wife too.
