Authorized User Offer for Amex Platinum Card is Back, Earn up to 20K MR Points

American Express has brought back a generous offer for adding Authorized Users on the personal Platinum card. You can earn as much as 20K MR points. Let’s take a look at the offers.

Amex Platinum Offer

Earn 5,000 bonus Membership Rewards® points for each of the first four Additional Cards that you add through this email that spend $500 in their first 3 months, starting from the date that they are approved. Additional Cards must be added by October 20, 2017 to be eligible for this offer. The maximum bonus points you can earn through this offer is 20,000.

Key Terms

  • Additional Cards must be added by October 20, 2017
  • Both Additional Gold Cards and Additional Platinum Cards are eligible for this offer.
  • The 5,000 bonus Membership Rewards points will be posted to the Basic Card Member’s account within 8–12 weeks after an Additional Card Member makes $500 in purchases.
  • Your purchases as the Basic Card Member will not count toward the $500 spend requirement.

Conclusion

The offer in itself is great, as it gives you 10X MR points up to 20,000 MR points total. You have the option of adding additional Platinum cards at $175 for three of them or just Gold Cards for free. The only issue here is that you need to add Authorized Users and that would show up as another credit card on that person’s credit report. If that’s not an issue and you were targeted, then it is definitely worth it.

I didn’t receive an email about the offer like last time, but I saw the offer in the Amex Offers section of my account online. You might want to also check your PRG account as the same offer showed up on those cards last time.

  1. Had the offer on my personal PRG, which is over 2 years old, so adding my wife and mom didn’t hurt their Chase 5/24 status, yay!

Added my 2YO son too, since they only wanted SSN and not birth date (unlike Chase, Amex usually asks for birth date and won’t give my toddler a card, boo!). Now Amex is following up saying if I don’t give them my son’s birth date within 60 days, they will cancel that card. Hopefully that won’t cause issues with the bonus for my mom and wife.

  2. So I am confused? Add a GOLD card and no fee, or a PLAT card and pay $175? THey both get 5k MR? Or what? I am unclear based on the article.

I cannot see doing the Plat card T $175, but if I get the same 5K points on a gold for no fee, then it makes sense. Can you clarify?

  3. No email, didn’t show on Plat Card, but did show in PRG Amex Offers! Thanks for putting that line in at the end, I wouldn’t have checked there otherwise!
