Serve Not Allowing Non-Amex Cards

I broke the news last month that credit card loads from non-Amex cards to Serve will end on April 16, 2015. This means that you still have a chance to max out your $1k ($1.5k for Softcard version) limit for the month.

Unfortunately several users on Reddit are reporting that American Express has already updated their system to prevent the addition of non-Amex cards. This means that the only way a non-Amex credit card load will work is if you use a card already linked to your Serve account.

At this point I would highly suggest not deleting the current card linked to your Serve account. While some people reported they were able to add a new card in the past couple of days, quite a few have had issues and thus are missing out on their last loads.

Let me know in the comments if you have had similar issues!

  1. What are the chances that we’re still able to load with the card on file in May?

1000 done already this month. Looking forward to experimenting in May!

  2. Is there any confirmation if Serve will accept FIA card services Fidelity Amex 2% cash back cards after 15 April?

  3. we have 5 cards (soft card version) in our family. just did my last round of loads… $1500 x 5 = $7500
It was fun while it lasted. The load limit is certainly less than the redbird but the convenience of being able to do the load at any time any where with your smart phone or computer in your pajama or even on your toilet just can’t be beat. $500 a day per load, by 3rd of every month, I was done loading.. perhaps 5 minutes a day for 3 days each month. Compared to making multiple trips to Target which is like 30 min away and that guilty feeling in front of cashier… the fear of rejection… ah. I think I am just going to switch all to bluebird and settle for $5000 a month load…

    • I’ve never been rejected at Target, and they don’t even offer them at this store so it shows they’re willing to work harder and with probably more perceived risk too. The only time I was rejected was because of the computer being down. The lady was apologizing and offered a 5% discount on any store purchase to make up for the RB not working.

Overall the employees are light years ahead of Wal-Mart. I was apprehensive initially about loading at a store completely unfamiliar with the card but it’s been great. At this point there’s two familiar faces who recognize me when I go to the customer service to deposit. Fwiw I never do more than $1k per day. Target is in my normal shopping stomping grounds so I’d rather take the slow and steady approach.

You should consider changing one card to RB and giving it a go. You only need to deposit $1k/mo to break even.

  4. I tried switching my card march 31st and got the typical security notice about needing to submit documents. Did it immediately and still haven’t received clearance to deposit. Called yesterday and was on hold 20 minutes and hung up.

Wife got her temporary card yesterday so I’m tempted to say screw it and just close her serve now. RB has been excellent I won’t miss Serve!

  5. I just switched yesterday to a new Visa I got and no problems here! $400 down and $600 to go! I wonder if it is a rolling system transition. It is strange that it would not work for some while working for others.
