Warning

American Express has been getting much stricter recently. This is the fine print in the terms of the application for the SPG Business Card:

Bonus points will appear on your Starwood Preferred Guest statement 8–12 weeks after you reach the spend threshold. If we in our sole discretion determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with the welcome bonus offer in any way or that you intend to do so (for example, if you applied for one or more cards to obtain a welcome bonus offer (s) that we did not intend for you; if you cancel or downgrade your account within 12 months after acquiring it; or if you cancel or return purchases you made to meet the Threshold Amount), we may not credit Starpoints to your account. We may also cancel this Card account and other Card accounts you may have with us.

Analysis

This new offer matches the highest ever bonus of 35,000 Starpoints and is similarly structured to the offer we saw back in February. However, this offer requires more spending. You need to spend $6,000 for the 25,000 bonus and $10,000 in total for the full 35,000 bonus.

Spending $10K is not easy for some people but if you can handle it, and if you’ve never had this card before, then this is a good opportunity. I doubt we will see a higher bonus.

SPG Starpoints are very valuable. You can redeem them on SPG properties starting at just 2K per night, you can transfer to Marriott at 1:3 or to many other travel partners at 1:1.

Conclusion

If you have been looking at this credit card and if it fits within your overall plans, now may be the time to get the SPG Business card. I suspect many of you have already had this credit card and thus aren’t eligible for the bonus, but if you are take a look!

If you applied recently for a lesser offer, then contact Amex to ask to get matched to this increased offer.
