Amex Uber Credits Will Be Harder to Use
Select American Express cardholders earn monthly Uber credits that can be used for rides and Uber Eats orders. That includes cards like Amex Platinum and Amex Gold.
Currently is quite easy to use these credits, even if you have several credits in the same account. You just add one or more eligible cards to your Uber account, and then you can use all the credits while checking out, no matter what card you use for the remaining balance.
But there’s a big change coming in November, we just don’t know how bad it will be. Here’s what we know right now:
To utilize your Monthly Premium Benefits as a Platinum Card Member, you’ll need to select your Amex card as your payment method for trips/orders starting November 8th, 2024.
What we know for sure is that you will need to pay with your eligible Amex card in order to utilize the monthly Uber credits.
But it could possibly mean that you can only use one credit at a time, and not be able to stack them together, or with other credits. That would be a huge devaluation of these credits monthly credits.

I read this to mean that you will need to select your Amex card as the payment method for any amount in excess of the credits on the account, which in my case wouldn’t be much of a concern as I am always loading up my account with gift cards. (Currently, Uber uses the Amex credits first, then the gift card balance. Any change to that scenario would indeed suck).
And, the residual balance is exactly how over which this is going to be a big deal? And, the points differential is going to be how many over which this is going to be a big deal?
