Chase Freedom Increased Off Available

Last week I wrote that the Chase Freedom card (my review) was going to have an increased bonus starting this week. It seems that this offer is now live through both the Chase website and through Chase’s referral website.

The Offer

  • Receive $200 (20,000 points) after $500 in spend during the first 3 months.
  • Receive $25 (2,500 points) after adding an authorized user who uses the card to make a purchase within the first 6 months.

Refer-A-Friend

Last week when I posted, none of my Freedom cards were working for referrals. Thankfully I just checked and now they seem to be working. If you found that you weren’t eligible last week, check again at the Chase referral website. You can find more detailed refer-a-friend instructions here.

Where to Apply

You should be able to apply through anyone’s referral link or directly at the Chase website as well. I am going to post my personal referral link here if anyone is interested, but feel free to post yours in the comments as well.

Conclusion

This is the highest that the Freedom’s bonus has been in the past several years, so now may be a good time to get it if the card falls within your master plan. A $225 bonus (22,500 points) on a no annual fee card is a fantastic bonus, especially considering these points are transferable if you have either a Sapphire Preferred or a Chase Ink Plus/Bold.

  1. I would like to get this card but I do not have a Sapphire Preferred. Would I be able to get both at the same time or be approved for sapphire 3 months from now? I already have a United and a Southwest Card.

  2. Well I have some possibly bad news. Sometime between March and now Chase has implemented a new policy and is now declining apps based on the amount of credit cards opened over a two year period for their in-house cards such as Freedom and Sapphire Preffered. This does not apply to cards such as IHG. When I asked about how many was allowed, I was told it was internal and they could not disclose. They also said it wasn’t about FICO, It was strictly opened/closed accounts. So the magic number is 4, once we verified a card was an authorized user and shouldn’t count against us we were approved.

    • One more thing, they noted if you are an authorized user don’t remove yourself before applying because some banks don’t disclose the card ownership type afterwards (Barclays).

  3. “This is the highest that the Freedom’s bonus has been in the past several years”

FYI: This offer (with no referral) was available Nov 2014.

    • Perhaps I worded that wrong. I covered this same bonus twice last year and the posts are on this blog. What I meant is that it hasn’t been higher than this in the past several years. I apologize for not being clearer.

      • No prob. I was just concerned that people might think this opportunity hasn’t been offered in “the past several years” and that it might influence their decision to apply or not.
