Chase Freedom Refer a Friend Is Back – October 2014
Earlier this week the internet exploded when Chase released a referral offer for their Chase Ink Plus card (details) through chasereferafriend.com. Chase has been running various Refer a Friend promotions on and off over the past couple of years on different products.
In May, I wrote a detailed explanation of how to refer your friends to the Chase Freedom card. That offer expired awhile ago, however I just checked the Chase Refer a Friend site and it has returned. If you refer your friends to the Chase Freedom card (personal referral application link) before October 15, 2014 then you will receive 5,000 Ultimate Rewards points ($50) and they will get the normal public bonus of 10,000 points ($100).
In the past this bonus has usually jumped up once per year. The highest it has ever been is 20,000 points for a sign up and the last time it was raised was in May of 2014. While getting the 4th quarter bonuns category cash back may make the deal worth it, you may want to wait for a higher offer.
For step by step instructions on how to complete the Chase Freedom Refer a Friend process, I highly suggest visiting my earlier post which has also been updated with all of the relevant information for this offer.
Refer a Friend Offers On Other Chase Cards
I checked to see if the referral bonuses were working again for the Chase Southwest cards and they were not. Since I no longer have a Sapphire Preferred or United Explorer card, I was unable to check those. I highly suggest heading to the referral site to see if you are eligible to refer any friend to your current Chase cards.
Caution
Remember that everyone’s situation is different and it is always a good idea to slow down before applying for credit cards. Just because an offer is good or you can get a quick bonus, doesn’t mean it is right for you. It can be easy to get in over your head when applying for credit cards.
What Is The Chase Freedom
The Chase Freedom is a no annual fee card which pays 1% cash back on all purchases. Additionally they have rotating categories each quarter which pay 5% cash back up to $1,500 in spend. I currently have two Freedom cards and use them to maximize the quarterly 5% bonuses. For a complete breakdown, see my earlier post.
If you are interested in applying and don’t have a friend to refer you, here is my personal referral link. Feel no pressure to use it, however if you do, I appreciate the support.

[…] Previously the sign up bonus has gone as high as $350 (back in 2012) and more recently it was $200 earlier in 2014. Sometimes current Freedom cardholders are able to refer their friends to get the card. You can find more information about that program here. […]
Actually, it went as high as 35K back in 2012. Heck of an offer!
I had forgotten about that! Thanks.
If I enter the information for my Southwest card, I get the same message. But if I just use the same link that I got last quarter for the Southwest card, it still takes me to what appears to be an active landing / application page, though like I said, it says it expires 9/30. I don’t know what would happen if you applied through that link – my guess would be you could certainly make a case for the 50K bonus
When I enter the information for my Southwest card, it says the offer is only eligible for certain cardholders. I guess you were lucky!
I generally wouldn’t recommend signing up for the Freedom either, however the bonus generally only goes higher once per year to 20,000 points. By maximizing their spend during the 4th quarter, people would already earn most of that difference back.
Your comment made me realize that I had included information about higher offers in my previous post which I updated, however hadn’t mentioned them here. I have updated the post. Thanks Dan!
My link to the Southwest 50K offer still works, though I have already used all my 10 referrals (thanks random Internet people!). At least, it goes to a landing / application page, though it does say it expires 9/30 so I’m not sure what would happen if you applied for it through that link.
My Freedom link does work though it only gives 10,000 points as a bonus (as I’m sure yours does as well), so I would not recommend it at this point to most people since we’ve seen the bonus go higher.
