Chase Improves 'Pay Yourself Back' for United Cards

Chase Improves ‘Pay Yourself Back’ for United Cards

Chase and United Airlines offer co-branded credit cards that earn MileagePlus miles. While we have seen the value of United miles drop recently, one redemption option is actually getting better.

Chase United MileagePlus cardholders can use miles to pay their credit card annual fees. You can now get up to 1.75 cents per mile depending on the card you have, which is a slight increase from a flat 1.5 on all cards.

Which Cards Are Eligible

  • United Club Infinite Card
    • Use 30,000 miles to cover the $525 annual fee
    • 1.75 cents per point
  • United Quest Card
    • Use 15,625 miles to cover the $250 annual fee
    • 1.60 cents per point
  • United Explorer Card
    • Use 6,250 miles to cover the $95 annual fee
    • 1.52 cents per point
  • United Business Explorer Card
    • Use 6,600 miles to cover the $99 annual fee
    • 1.50 cents per point

Miles may be redeemed for a statement credit using Pay Yourself Back against the prior payment of your annual fee within 90 days before the redemption request date. You can also  use miles for partial annual fee reimbursement.

Conclusion

This is actually a good use of your United MileagePlus miles. You can net a value between 1.5¢ and 1.75¢ per mile when you redeem towards your credit card annual fee, depending which card you have.
