Chase Ink CardCash 5X Returns
For many, buying discounted gift cards is a way to save money. You not only save by getting a discount off of face value, but you can also earn credit card rewards in greater amounts than shopping in a store directly. It all adds up to a nice savings.
One of the better gift card reselling deals in the past was CardCash. In the past if you used a Chase Ink Plus/Cash card to purchase gift cards from them then the transaction would earn 5X Ultimate Rewards. Unfortunately that died a few months back when CardCash changed the way their transactions are coded.
5X Returns
Thankfully it now seems like that has been reversed. According to @MilesForTwo on Twitter, a recent transaction from December 12 earned 5X. The transaction was paid through PayPal so it isn’t clear if a direct purchase will code as 5X as well, but I’m sure we will see data points on that soon enough. This is a great development and one I know a lot of you will be happy about.
CardCash Issues
While earning 5X is great, there are some drawbacks to buying from CardCash. To start, CardCash is perhaps the reseller with the most amount of fraud. I purchase cards from them often and have lost count of how many bad or fraudulent cards I have received. They only guarantee cards purchased for 45 days, so make sure you have an immediate use for your purchase. I only buy cards that I plan to use right away.
Other 5X Options
As a reminder, you can also earn 5X points with a Chase Ink Plus/Cash when:
- Purchasing gift cards on eBay from PayPal Digital Gifts.
- Purchasing gift cards from Gift Card Mart.
- Purchasing gift cards from Gyft when paying through PayPal.
Conclusion
I had mostly stopped purchasing from CardCash after they stopped coding as 5X simply because I prefer other resellers and without the 5X there was no incentive for me to buy from them. Now that this has returned I most likely will buy from CardCash more often, however I’m sure I’ll have to deal with some headaches along the way.

Good article, cardcash took me for $1500 fraud 6 months ago and i have had no luck in getting it back. Their customer service is horrible and have many ways or trying to not help you when fraud occurs.
Does virtual visa thru gift card mall code as 5x. It redirects to giftcards.com
No it does not as far as I know.
Do virtual VGC at gift card mart code as 5x. It is redirecting me to giftcards.com.
GiftcardMart has been working pretty well for me as an alternative
Thanks and good point! I added the other ways to earn 5X on gift cards to the post.
