Citi AT&T Access More Travel Category Bonus

Citi AT&T Access More Travel Category Bonus

From the moment it launched back in 2015, the AT&T Access More card has gotten a lot of attention and rightfully so. While it is no longer available for sign-ups, the card came with a $650 bonus good towards a phone and generous 3X categories.

This morning Citi sent out an email to cardholders indicating that you can now earn 3X on travel purchases in addition to online retail purchases. A few readers seemed to think this was an addition and were confused, so I thought it was worth posting about.

The Email

I can definitely see why people might be confused.

The email has the following subject: “Great news! Earn points when you use your card for travel.”

The text says: “Start planning your next getaway!
Earn 3X points when you use your AT&T Access More Card from Citi online to book a flight or reserve a hotel room.”

And it looks like this:

While it may seem based on the subject that Citi is adding the travel category, it has been there since the beginning! For example, here is a screenshot of the offer from my post about the card in April, 2015.

In fact, I dug into the terms in my 2015 post to cover exactly which types of travel are included and which are not. This is simply not new.

Getting the Card Now

If you are interested in the AT&T Access More card it is no longer available for new sign-ups, but you may be able to convert another Citi product to it. Between the 10,000 anniverary points after $10K spend and the 3X earnings for most online purchases including travel, this card is one of my most heavily used.

Conclusion

I can definitely see why some people were confused and clearly a lot didn’t know about the travel category bonus. For that reason Citi was probably smart to promote it and let us all use this as a reminder of just how awesome this card really is!

  1. I usually have done amazon via gift cards bought with ink plus at office depot. I am now tempted to do the att access & more at amazon (3x) via the jetblue 3x link. I still think i value 5ur reward points more than 3ty points and 3 jetblue miles per dollar spent at amazon, but it is at least close now. Of course when you spend your gift card balance you can get another 3x jetblue miles, but that is a wash.

Using the access and more card for the united mileagexplus instant gift card app is another way I love this card.

  2. I always debate using this card or SPG. The airline partners seem better on SPG but those 3x points for online purchases are appealing. Usually I get Amazon gift cards with the INK at Office Depot since I order most from them.

  3. have this card and love it – pay my mortgage on this through plastiq.com for the 3X. my question is that my Citi Prestige annual fee is coming up in April – I’m thinking of closing it. what should i do to be able to transfer the AT&T access card TYP to travel partners? try to downgrade the prestige to preferred? something else?
