Spending Bonuses on the Club Carlson Credit Card
U.S. Bank is sending out new targeted spending bonuses to holders of their co-branded Club Carlson credit card. (My review of the card.) They have done this in the past, although this round doesn’t seem as generous. (At least not for me.)
The Offer(s)
The promotional period runs from March 1, 2015 to April 30, 2015 and cardmembers must enroll with their unique code at clubcarlsonvisaoffers.com by March 31, 2015 to be eligible.
- Offer 1 (shown above): After spending $150 during the promotional period, earn 1 bonus point per dollar spent up to to a total of 2,000 bonus points. In other words, they pay a maximum of a 2,000 point bonus after $2,150 in everyday spend.
- Offer 2: Earn 1 bonus point per dollar spent up to to a total of 2,000 bonus points. This is the same as the above offer, however it doesn’t have the initial spending requirement so you would only need to spend $2000 to maximize the bonus. (This is the same as the offer my wife received last year.)
Analysis
Last year I received an offer for 2 extra points per dollar up to 5,000 points when shopping at gas stations. That was a more generous bonus than either of these, but I can’t really complain since the Club Carlson credit card already generously pays 5 points per dollar spent.
Club Carlson points are worth much less than other currencies though and I routinely find them to be worth about .4 cents each. Since this is a low overall bonus, I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to meet it unless you were already planning to use the card. Remember you will be earning 6X points on the bonus spend which amounts to roughly 2.4% back. (Or less with the offer that requires $150 in non-bonused spend.)
With that said, using something like the Prepaid REDcard may be a good solution since you can manufacture the exact amount of spend needed in order to maximize the bonus. Of course there is also the amazing Extend Your Stay promotion that Club Carlson is running right now for hotel stays as well.
Conclusion
While I am not certain if U.S. Bank is sending these offers out to everyone, in the past most members received at least one offer. Have you received any bonus spending offers on the Club Carlson credit card lately? If so, feel free to share the details in the comments.

Wondering if you have a quick reasoning/calculation behind the 0.4 valuation for CC points? Does that assume usage of the “second night free” feature?
My husband and I both received offer of 5 points per dollar restaurant spend capped at 5000, through 4/30.
I got a similar offer as the first one mentioned above, but the spending threshold was much higher (the bonus points only started after 4k in initial spend). Guess it is based on usage patterns (I use my carlson cc a lot).
Shawn,
How do I know if I’m eligible for the promotion? Is it targeted and have to receive a targeted email from Club Carlson? If so, what is the subject or title of the email? Need to dig and search my mailbox. ..
I apologize for not making this clearer. The promotion is sent via U.S. mail. They send a unique code that you must use to register on their website.
My offer was an extra 5 points per $1.00 spent at restaurants through April.
I got the same offer on my CC business card
Was it capped?
Yes, it is capped at “up to 5,000 points”
[…] Club Carlson Credit Card Targeted Spending Bonuses by Miles to Memories. More targeted spending bonuses, these ones aren’t particularly great but I know how much some of you love Club Carlson points. […]
Mine was 1 bonus point after spending $750, not lucrative at all.

Offer 2: Earn 1 bonus point per dollar spent up to to a total of 2,000 bonus points. This is the same as the above offer, however it doesn’t have the initial spending requirement so you would only need to spend $400 to maximize the bonus. (This is the same as the offer my wife received last year.)
I read this to be maximized after $2000 spend no? 1 additional point per dollar spent up to 2000?
Shawn: You really need to re-read your offer. Jay V is correct. You get 2000 bonus points after $2000 of spend, or, in the case of offer 1, $2150 spend. You’re basing your calculations on total points earned, not bonus points.
You guys are both right. I don’t know where my mind was. I have corrected the post. Thanks for pushing me on this.
You are correct. Thanks for catching me on that. I have updated the post.
