Club Carlson Targeted Spending Offers
There is certainly a lot of bad to say about what has happened to the Club Carlson credit card over the past few months. First U.S. Bank and Club Carlson removed the Extra Bonus Night feature and then Club Carlson devalued pretty significantly.
Still, Club Carlson points are among the easiest to earn from both staying at their properties and through their credit card. Every few months it seems U.S. Bank sends out a round of targeted spending offers on the card. It looks like the latest batch has started to arrive.
My Offer
Unlike with previous promotions where both my wife and I received offers, for some reason only I got one this time. As you can see above, the offer is 1 extra point per dollar up to 2,000 bonus points. This means if I spend $2,000 on my card, I will receive 10,000 points from the normal spend plus an additional 2,000 bonus points. Not terrible, but certainly not killer either.
There are other versions of spending offers being sent out as well. Grant reports he received a similar offer to mine, but his doesn’t kick in until after $300 in spending. (His came via email whereas mine came via U.S. mail.) @Mileswhip on Twitter posted that he received an offer on his Club Carlson business card for 5 bonus points per dollar spent on dining purchases. (Up to 5,000 bonus points.)
How to Register
If you receive one of these offers there should be a unique registration code. (The code has been removed from my mailer above.) To register simply call the number or logon to the website and enter your code. They really do make it very easy.
Analysis
Sunday is the last day to book hotel rooms with the 2nd night free benefit and I am planning to burn most of my Club Carlson points this weekend. For that reason, I don’t think this offer is really something I am going to take advantage of for now, since Club Carlson isn’t my favorite brand and without the Bonus Award Night, their value is diminished.
Conclusion
It is nice to see targeted spending offers, but unlike with past versions of this offer, I am not nearly as excited. Club Carlson has really lost its thunder for me and while they definitely are still very competitive on the low-end, I don’t see enough value in shifting my spending for an extra 1 point per dollar.
