I have written many times about the Club Carlson Visa card and how I have consistently used it to score some great award redemptions. In my opinion it is one of the best hotel credit cards out there.
Not only does the card give 40,000 bonus points every year & mid-tier Gold status, but it comes with a bonus award night on every award stay of two nights or more. (Up to 50 per year.) Essentially it offers “Buy One Get One Free” on two night award stays. (I always try to book Club Carlson redemptions in two night chunks.)
The card is issued by U.S. Bank and it appears they are trying to get people to use it more often for everyday spend. If you are a current cardholder be sure to look in the mail for a targeted spending offer. Both my wife and I received different offers in the mail this week.
Offer 1
The first version of the offer was sent to my wife & is pretty straightforward. She will earn 1 bonus point per dollar on ALL spend between July 1, 2014 & August 31, 2014 up to 2,000 bonus points.
Since the card already pays 5 points per dollar on normal spend, this will bring our total haul on that $2,000 in spending up to 6 points per dollar. I often get more than $.01 per point redemption value when factoring in the Bonus Award Night so this is a no-brainer.
Offer 2
The second version of the offer was sent to me and gives 2 bonus points per dollar spent at gas stations up to $2,500 in spend or 5,000 bonus points.
I think this offer isn’t quite as good since it is more difficult for me to manufacture spend at gas stations. Additionally, I already have a card that pays 5% cash back on gas purchases along with the Freedom card which is going to be paying 5x Ultimate Rewards points at gas stations in the 3rd quarter.
Analysis
While we will definitely do the $2,000 in spend to get the bonus on my wife’s card, I doubt we will participate in the offer for the bonus on gas station purchases because we would be giving up too much return on other cards.
It is clear that U.S. Bank & Club Carlson are looking to get people to spend more on their cards. Frequent Miler wrote today that he recently took a survey mentioning certain benefits for higher spend. Clearly it is a priority.
Registering For The Offer
To register for the promotion you simply have to go to clubcarlsonvisaoffers.com and enter the promotion code on your offer along with an email address.
The one sneaky thing I noticed is that they are making you opt-in to receive promotional offers via email in order to get this deal. It does say you can opt back out by changing the preferences on your account, but that is a pain.
Conclusion
While not life changing, U.S. Bank & Club Carlson are offering bonus points in addition to the already generous 5 points per dollar on everyday spend on their co-branded Visa card. Keep an eye out for the offer to see if you have been targeted and if so, to see what specific promotion they have sent.

No promo offer received here. 🙁
We got a slightly different offer: After spending $100, additional net purchases will earn 1 bonus point per dollar spent (up to 2,000 points.)
I want to apply Lufthansa, SW and SPG cards using your affiliate links so can you …….but before that, please tell me how do I meet the minimum spending to get the sign up bonus since we cannot load Vanilla gift cards into BB at WM anymore. I checked around my area and all the Office Depot and Staples are out of the $200 fixed about Visa gift card, only the $100 one available but I don’t want to buy a lot of $100 visa gc because it’s a hassle to load them one by one at WM (besides amazon payment and evolve, since I want to pay my credit card bill with bluebird)……I don’t want to be stuck with many GC that cannot be liquidated……..please advise so I can use your link to apply before the offer expires.
Hey John. Thanks for thinking to me. Since it is a little wordy I will send you an email along with a link for the SPG referral. It appears the email address you have provided is not working. Please contact me at milestomemories at gmail dot com with your information and I will answer your question.
Is it a unique promotion code?
Yes it is a unique code. I have removed the code from the images in the post.
