Covid-19 Testing Domestic Air Travel

Covid-19 Testing Could Become Mandatory for Domestic Air Travel

Dr. Marty Cetron, director for the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine at CDC, has confirmed in a call with reporters that Covid-19 testing could become mandatory for domestic air travel.

When asked whether new domestic travel testing requirements might be employed, he said that the agency is “actively looking” at tightening restrictions. “There are conversations that are ongoing and looking at what the types and locations of testing might be,” said Marty Cetron, according to Reuters. “We’re actively looking at it.”

On Tuesday, the U.S. implemented a new policy requiring international travelers to test negative for COVID-19 before arriving in the country. But there are no current nationwide requirements for domestic travel. President Biden also directed U.S. agencies to make recommendations to “impose additional public health measures for domestic travel” at the same time these new requirements were announced.

CDC Director Redfield said last week that “testing does not eliminate all risk”. But, he added that “when combined with a period of staying at home and everyday precautions like wearing masks and social distancing, it can make travel safer, healthier, and more responsible by reducing spread on planes, in airports, and at destinations.”

  1. Just lol at someone having to take a corona test for domestic flights. Try to at least be in driving distance in case you come up positive and don’t want to be stranded in a hotel for 2 weeks with bums and druggies shooting up in front of your hotel. Come on man.

  2. Let’s see, take four covid tests at $130 each to use a $99 air ticket. SO Far, biden seems very adept at destroying industries with the promise that someday we will all get jobs making solar panels for $80K per year. Only problem, he wants to destroy your jobs with a promise of a maybe job someday.

    Can’t wait for Kamela.

  3. I will cancel my flights (flying in late Feb) if they make this a rule. Another way to fcuk the economy and then airlines will have another excuse to get bailout money–more money prints and inflation…

  4. Well, if Biden wants to start destroying the economy, this is one way to accomplish it. I think requiring a covid test to fly would reduce the number of flyers by 25 – 50%.

  5. As long as they accept rapid antigen testing (almost certain since accepted for International travel) I have no problem with this provided it is discontinued at the end of 2021 (at the latest). No big deal to go day before a trip to get a rapid antigen test. Yes it costs a little but part of deciding if you want to travel or not. I’m sure businesses will reimburse for business travel and leisure travelers just need to build that into their plans. If you test positive you shouldn’t have traveled anyway.

BTW – I have a number of flights planned for the next several months (and likely 5-10 more later in 2021) which are all leisure travel since I am retired so I’m going to get hit with this and still don’t have a problem with it.

    • The key word is you are retired and have plenty of time to run around getting covid tests. Not everyone else is.

    • I’m sure all families that would like to travel will be excited to factor in a likely charge of $150/person both ways for travel to another state. My wife and I are in Miami right now for the weekend and I doubt seriously I would have done testing for a weekend run. On top of all that every family will have to factor in the false positives and getting quarantined with an entire family and all expenses are your responsibility.
BTW. I am retired and I would eliminate all my mileage runs and only fly when necessary. It would cut my travel down to almost nothing

  6. Have fun. Just tried to fly to Germany from Las Vegas. Test 48 h before reaching the boarder. Uploaded to untied , accepted. At the check in then hands Writer papers are not accepted… 45 min discussion now on the plane…..
