Recent Credit Card Application Results To End 2019
PDX Deals Guy was willing to share Mrs. PDX Deals Guy application results that finished off 2019. These were done in the last few weeks because they have some tax bills to pay (business and personal) and some other expenses that meant there was a lot of bandwidth to work with. So they decided to take advantage of some amazing offers, some of which expire today. All in all the Mrs. went 5 for 5 and came out of it with over $5,000 in value. I didn’t add in any annual fees or subtract any credits because they are mostly a wash.

Credit Card Application Results
There were some referrals, public offers and limited time offers mixed in together so let’s take a look at the results:
Capital One Spark Miles – 200,000 Spark Miles
The Capital One Spark Miles card has one of the largest, if not the largest, welcome offers we have ever seen. It comes with a catch though, a ton of spend is required. Lucky for PDX Deals Guy he owes Uncle Sam a lot of business taxes (I guess you can call that luck 🤣)! Here is the current welcome offer:
- 50,000 bonus miles when you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months of account opening.
- 150,000 bonus miles when you spend $50,000 in the first 6 months of account opening.
- The $95 annual fee is waived the first year
The Spark Miles card earns 2 miles per dollar on every purchase. Those miles can be be used at one cent a piece towards travel or transferred to most of their transfer partners at 1.5 airline miles for 2 spark miles. She was instantly approved after getting denied from Capital One for the same card in January of 2019. That should net them at least $2,000 in value. That will help offset that bill to Uncle Sam!
Citibusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select – 65,000 American Airlines Miles
I think the Citibusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select card has one of the best and most undervalued business welcome offers out there. It is also nice that it is the only card that earns a bonus on PayPal Digital Gifts purchases anymore. The current welcome offer is:
- 65,000 American Airlines miles after spending $4,000 within the first 4 months of account opening.
- The $99 annual fee is waived the first year.
Another lessor used perk of the card is that it gets you access to the awesome American Airlines reduced mileage awards. Be sure to check those out! The application went pending for 5 days before Mrs. PDX Deals Guy got the approval email. The 65,000 American Airlines miles should net around $1,000 in value.
American Express Business Platinum – 75,000 Membership Rewards Points
Mrs. PDX Deals Guy started off with the American Express Business Platinum card. The current welcome offer for the card is:
- 50,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $10,000 within 3 months of account opening.
- 25,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend an additional $10,000 within 3 months of account opening.
- The $595 annual fee is not waived.
This card is perfect for any tax payments they have since it earns 1.5X Membership Rewards points on all purchases above $5,000. If the full $20,000 was done at once that is 105,000 Membership Rewards points for this card.
Mrs. PDX Deals Guy had to call in after the application and answer a few questions to get approved. The 75,000 MR points should bring $1,125 in value.
American Express Surpass Card – 150,000 Hilton Honors Points & $100 Credit
Mrs. PDX Deals Guy took advantage of a pretty awesome offer that ends tonight for the Surpass card. It is as follows:
- 150,000 Hilton Honors points after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months of card membership.
- $100 statement credit after your first purchase.
I don’t know how Mrs. PDX Deals Guy has not had one of my favorite cards out there before but I am glad she has it now. The card has an awesome earning structure and gives you a free night after $15,000 in spend each calendar year. Pair those two together and they will be rolling in the Hilton Honors free nights and stays in no time. It was an instant approval. The 150,000 points should bring at least $600 in value.
American Express Green Card – 45,000 Membership Rewards Points
There is an increased offer on the Amex Green card when you refer someone so that is what PDX Deals family did. By doing the referral PDX Deals Guy was able to net a 10,000 bonus on the referral as well. The current offer on the Green card via referral is:
- 45,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $2,000 within 3 months of account opening.
- $150 statement credit for spending with Away which appears to end mid January
- The $150 annual fee is not waived
By linking up the referral bonus and the welcome offer they should be able to net 55,000 Membership Rewards points worth around $825. The Green card has been revamped and overs 3X earning on travel and 3X earning on restaurants which is a vast improvement over the old 1X on everything setup.
Final Thoughts
Well that about does it. If I am being honest I am a little jealous of this haul. Okay, okay I am supremely jealous of this haul. An impressive 5 for 5 and just in time for those huge tax bills everyone has coming. It is as if they planned it that way 🤔😆. Hopefully we see some more good things from these two in 2020.

is all Cap CCs including Biz, reported to all credit reports? Thx
Yeah they are – one of the few lenders that reports business cards to personal reports.
What’s good to get with the Away credit? Everything is way more than $150 lol
I think if you needed new luggage anyway then it is useful. If you didn’t then probably not. There are a few things for around $150 but I would never pay $150 of my own cash for them haha.
Nice. I’ve been trying to get that Spark Business for months and can’t get approved. Not sure what it takes with Cap One.
Has to be at least 6 months inbetween applications or it is an auto denial so I would just space it out some more.
6 months between application for ANY card or just a Cap One?
6 months between cap one applications. They are also somewhat inquiry sensitive overall too.
