Delta Cuts 10 More Routes, But Brings Back Five at LGA
Delta Air Lines is the latest carrier to make adjustments to its schedule, as the travel demand recovery stalls amid a new Covid-19 surge.
Delta revealed last week that will will drop three cities from its network indefinitely, with seven routes overall getting cut. Now, the carrier is cutting 10 more routes from its current schedule while it re-evaluates later start dates.
Salt Lake City is the hardest hit airport with 5 of the 10 dropped routes. Minneapolis-St. Paul comes next with three. Here are all 10 routes which were first reported by TPG:
|Atlanta (ATL)||Rochester, Minnesota (RST)||Endeavor Air CRJ900|
|Boston (BOS)||Bermuda (BDA)||Delta A319|
|Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP)||Lansing, Michigan (LAN)||Endeavor Air CRJ200|
|Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP)||Freeland, Michigan (MBS)||Endeavor Air CRJ200|
|Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP)||Tulsa (TUL)||SkyWest E175|
|Salt Lake City (SLC)||Cleveland (CLE)||Delta Airbus A319/A320 mix|
|Salt Lake City (SLC)||Columbus (CMH)||Delta Airbus A319/A320 mix|
|Salt Lake City (SLC)||Des Moines (DSM)||SkyWest E175|
|Salt Lake City (SLC)||Madison, Wisconsin (MSN)||SkyWest E175|
|Salt Lake City (SLC)||Pittsburgh (PIT)||Delta Airbus A319|
The majority of the 10 cut routes were operated by Delta’s regional affiliates such as Endeavor Air and SkyWest. Several airlines have been pulling out of smaller markets due to low demand and profitability. Travel demand for Bermuda also remains low due to strict COVID-19 entry requirements.
A Delta spokesperson told TPD that “we continue to evaluate our network and make changes in line with customer demand, as we have throughout the pandemic.”
New Routes at LGA
But there’s also some good news. This week, the airline filed plans to bring back five seasonal summer routes from its New York/LaGuardia (LGA) hub to the following destinations:

|Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM)||Endeavor Air CRJ900|
|Nantucket (ACK)||Endeavor Air CRJ900|
