Delta Shutdowns Reported

Update: These Delta shutdowns could be related to recent issues with Delta cards mailers that resulted to Amex shutdowns.

In 2019 and 2020 American Airlines shut down many accounts for customers who had abused offers for credit cards to earn lots of AAdvantage miles. There were probably some people who were caught up in the shutdowns even without doing anything wrong, or at least not breaking any written rules.

Now Delta Air Lines could be next in line with similar shutdowns. It’s still early to freak out, but there are a few data points that show accounts being shut down today. One redditor says he has heard of 4 shutdowns this morning at 9AM. Another says that his account info was changed and now can’t log into the Delta SkyMiles account. There’s no indication what might have caused these shutdowns, but we would have to assume it is related to some kind of abuse.

These are only a couple of cases, so we do not know if this is a widespread issue. If you have Delta SkyMiles, take a look at your accounts and see if there’s anything unusual going on, of if you’re not able to log in.

Conclusion

For now seems to be just a few cases and nowhere near what we say with American Airlines over a year ago. Please provide any relevant data points in the comments.

  1. I am confused by your statement that there is no indication as to what is causing the shutdowns. The Reddit post that is your source says exactly what the apparent reason is: people who abused mailers from Amex. Sounds similar to what happened with Citi/AA.
